I just picked up my O-like lasers from the post office.
My order shipped on the 11th, but it did arrive 2 days ago and I was asleep so missed it.

I bought the 200mW red adjustable and the 150mW 405nm adjustable.

Both look exactly as shown on website and I was fortunate to get everything in one package.

Both lasers came in small cardboard boxes with foam inserts.

I was surprised to see that the blu-ray pen had NO laser sticker on it, but the red did.
I am charging the batteries for the red so have not tried it yet.
The blu-ray pen is ok, but the focus ring has a lot of play making it difficult to remain stable when pointing around. Teflon tape might be in order. It does burn, but I need laser goggles before I experiment further with it.

I have purchased a number of lasers lately as well as an optics kit, so my next item is a reliable power meter. I plan on getting one soon so I can chart the power performance of my lasers (I am dying to measure output of my blu-ray 12x that uses jayrob's lense and 18650 host. That sucker burns better than any of my other lasers).

Question,

for the 200mw new style
when i get it, what is recojmmended max on time?

can i use different batteries like energizer to make stronger?

Also, for rechargeables, how will i charge? can i overcharge? ex. leave charge overnight for 10-12 hours. +rep 2 everyone who help!

Ok this is the main aspect of your laser


Batteries: Anytype of battery it uses, for example my laser uses HB 18650 Lithum 3.7V. If I bought a different battery but is the SAME type of battery, it will have the same effect.

The max time for both the waterproof and new style is +3000 life (which is 8 years if you used it 1hr a day everyday)

Yes you can overcharge the battery, I recommend buying recharge-ables from Dealextreme.com if this happens. Most likely will NOT happen in the first 6hrs of charging. Alot of people just leave their batteries charging all night.

I've heard you should limit you're time to 5 minutes. (I don't think I would expect to want to run 5 minutes constant anyway. and the time may be different (longer) for the non-waterproof model)

Your batteries need to have circuit protection, so you have constant voltage (no voltage spikes when on and off load)

Overnight is for a complete charge, but for a good charge I think you only need 3-4 hours, but this probably will varies from battery to battery.
I'm pretty sure rechargeable batteries cannot overcharge.
Edit: well, you probably shouldn't go for over 12 hours, as they will eventually heat up. Now on a slightly different note, you can shorten the life of your battery by charging it too frequently, i.e. when it doesn't need to be charged.

with olike cr2 is it ok to overcharge 10-12 hours in long run? should i buy BRAND NAMED batteryies<

They CAN overcharge, I have done this with my camera which uses a rechargeable lithum.

Yes the first charge is long (about 6-11hrs) but the normal charge after that is 2-4hrs like mitbrown said

In all don't just charge your batteries every 5secs of the day.

Perhaps i'm wrong, however I think that some chargers have overcharge protection. :yh:

Also the first charge is VERY important. you do not want to cut short or skip your first charge, as it has the largest impact on the operating time and overall life of the battery.

so dont use laser when i get it?

yea, unless they say that the batteries come charged(which i doubt), you must do the initial long charge. :beer: it's worth the wait

edit: 6 hours is enough, i'd say 12 is maximum(but probably more than necessary)

tonight leave it pluged in, wake up, play with laser... Repeat when batteries are fully dead

If you don't if your laser is dead or close to it. Try and burn somthing, if it doesnt burn within 6secs then its probably dead ..

Well, it turned out my brother got to the mail before I did and decided to hide the package from me. He just gave It to me! My laser is freaking awesoeme!!!! It burns thru anything!!! The only bad thing is I that Susie didn't ship my laser case. What do you guys think I should do about that???
