Heat sinking will be a big problem, and the bigger die (actually four) will not focus as good. I'm not familiar with the LED Lenser, sorry.
 





I'm just going to go ahead and say this... Surefire makes the best damn flashlights I've ever used. Negative is price though. I can tell you that they're extremely durable, bright as all get out, and worth the money.

Otherwise I'm a cheap bastard and like my 3Dcell Maglight LED. Some of those links look excellent though. I've just been through tough terrain with surefire, and it's always done the job.

Being the industry that I work in...(Assault Weapons) I have used several different types of Flashlights and I will agree with you that Surefire makes some of the best lights around....BUT in comparison to a lot of lights on DX, Surefire is a waist of money.

Keep in mind that the company I work for even promotes Surefires!!! I even get them at a dealers discount and I still think that they are a waist! YEs that's right 40% off


A equivelent surefire flashlight to a P7 would cost well over $200.

I am in no way saying that Surefires are junk or underspec, but they really are like the Wickedlasers of the Flashlight industry when it comes to their prices.
 
Thanks for that info, do they have any railmounted flashlights? Or do I gotta make my mounts?

I just love coming here and learning shit, save me crazy money.

Granted, if the led has a proper driver on it, it won't make a difference between one or two batteries. However, in most cases, DX doesn't sell flashlights with proper drivers in them. In fact, the majority of the p7 single cell lights on DX are Direct driven, or they have a current limiting resistor.

Personally, I have never tried any of the rail mounts that DX sells. I will only vouge for some of their lights that have become my personal favorites. Some of which I have abused the crap out of.

ah yes but take my flashlight for instance. It's driven at 2.9A. I would only assume they would try to make their p7 flashlights so the runtime is atleast an hour. They could not run one with 1 batery at the whole 2.9A and expect it to run for an hour, being that 18650's are 2400 - 2600mA. Although I have done it with my flashlight. Taken one of the tubes out and placed two rcr123a's. The flashlight was nice being smaller, but the runtime was below half of what it was compared to the two 18650s.

I am missing your logic here. I wasn't talking about run times. I am talking about their output. If you manage to find a p7 light with a good driver it will put out 2.9A reguardles of the voltage. That is all I am trying to say.

Also...2 cr123a batteries have less capacity than just one 18650 battery. It would be dumb to run your P7 flashlight with 2 CR123A batteries.:)

o yes I know. I'm simply just saying the higher you raise the current the less battery life you'l have, especially with only 1 battery.

as far as the RCR123A thing, I'm saying this because the way my driver works, If I put 1 18650 in the flashlight it won't be as bright, but if I put 2 rcr123a's in it will be just as bright as 2 18650's. My driver's brightness is based off the Voltage I guess, it doesn't try to draw 2.9A unless it has 7.2V. Again, this is just the way my driver works, so If I wanna make the flashlight smaller I have to use 2 RCR123a's.
 
I like my COAST LEDLENSER TACTICAL LIGHT. I own 3, they are under 4 inches long & run off 3 AAA Batteries, & throw a very bright, white, blinding, light. Lowes has them for under $40.00 with holster & lanyard & batteries included..........rob
 
thanks guys i have decided i am gonna go with a p7 just because of what he is gonna use it for i agree that he would want a floodlight aside from a throw light.

I just checked LedLenser's website found out they make a bunch of LedLenser flashlights. I didn't know that... I thought they just made the p7 one. Take a look here:

I wanna mod the p7 and make it much brighter, I'm sure they're not driving it anywhere near 2.9A like they could...
 
^^^They are definitely underdriven^^^^
P7 should typically put out 700 lumens at 2.9mA
