White laser spirograph video

Nice bit of alignment there Jase, showing my ignorance here...how come no green needed?

Hi Rog. The Argon is Multiline and contains indigo, blue and green lines, so half the mixing is done for you already ;)

Yupp, I think it may need a little less argon and it would be almost perfect, although its pretty good already, bet it looks great in person 8-)

PS: is it just me or has the forum activity decreased in the last week?

Are you nuts? I can barely keep up as it is! (or maybe I'm getting slower)
Use the shoutbox at the bottom of the home page if you get bored, that's what I do ;)

Tallaxo, awesome! It's so cool with a white laser. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
I'd sure like to try that, but I cant (needs argon).

GooeyGus should try it with his argon :P

I think the post count seems to have dropped because I have been on a lot more now that I'm off school and im ill so I cant go out, so I just spend all day either on this or youtube or some gaming website, or playing guitar and listening to me tunes.

WRONG! The laser doesn't need less argon, it need MORE red! ;D

BTW nice video Tallaxo, it's nice to see you on here again.

I plan on it! Unfortunately I have no living red diode to use ;D

Anyone know how much red it would take to make white with close to 200mW of multi-line argon?

about 800mW  :P. The only real option is turning the argon down.

thats what I was afraid of :D

Hey cyparagon, does your HGM5 run on normal 240v or is it 3-phase?

That would be 3 phase Gus. I would imagine about 25-30A on each phase at full power for that sort of beast.

Nope, 250V 50A is the required connection. The tube current is "only" 35A at 185V. I haven't measured the total power used. Even with the 300W filament and the inefficiency of the PSU taken into account, it is feasible to run a high power argon on residential power.

Awesome! I'm looking for something in the 1-4W range, but everything I've found is like 5+W and 3-phase. I better just keep an eye out... you got yours through ebay right? And did you buy the power supply with the head or is it something you built?

Edit: OOooo.... I actually just found an HGM 5 on ebay for $1300 + freight... too bad I'm probably about $500 short right now (and thats if I wanted to blow some tuition money ;D). Oh well... I'm sure there will be more.

My PSU has been modified for CW. I couldn't tell you how, but by default it operates in pulses of up to 30 seconds and afterward needs to cool for 5 minutes. a much larger fan is a must for anything above 500mW even with the PSU modification.
