whats needed to build a multicolor scaner

im thinking of building a scanner and wanted to know what parts i need.
ive got the violet green and red modules, thinking about getting a whitefusion driver to control them, so now i need some good optics for beam combining and a scanner thats affordable (close to $100). not sure what else is needed but would like to know. this will be going into a large box so no worry on the size.
 





You need a DAC, mounting hardware, and power supplies, and probably a few other things that slipped my mind. There's a sticky on this.
 
These things are quite a build indeed, the stickies are very useful pointers.

Specifically to the multicolor part: you will need the lasers, and the optics to combine their beams. If you want to use violet/bluray instead of true blue, also look at the '7 color spiro' threads for more information. You can pull of RGV combination with parts from a bluray (PHR803) sled. If you want to use proper blue, these arent likely to work, and you need to obtain a set of proper dichros to make the color mixing happen.

Bear in mind that bluray will not give you anything that looks remotely blue though, unless projecting onto fluorescent surfaces.

I have seen RGV scanners and although they are more purple than blue, certain combinations do look blue. Saying that they will not give anything that looks remotely blue is an exageration in my opinion.

red laser module
green laser module
blue laser module

2x dichros
front surfaced mirrors
adjustable mirror mounts

psu's to driver everything
scanners (galvos)
aluminium base plate
cooling fans

dac to control everything

I meant to say that the bluray laser will not look blue on its own. Its possible to get a bluish looking beam by mixing in a tiny amount of green. The power ratio between bluray and green has to be very large to get something bluish, otherwise it will look almost like its just green that's a bit 'off' to cyan. This severely limits the intensity of blue beams you can produce.

Getting a true blue (473 nm) laser in the mix will drive up the cost considerably though, even low powered ones (~30 mW) cost $500 or so.

Hey now i have and others have made good mounts for under 5$ from scrap hardware.
You could make a beam show for under 100 but there are no galvos that cheap.
i myself got the cheapest pair i could find which were used 15k galvos and they were around 70-100.
You could use steeper motors but then you have a ton less control and much harder time using them, as there is no software.
I am building a RGV scanner and its running me atm 225$ and i am building every thing.
Get some good lasers too a phr just wont do a swf or a ggw is much more suited.
 
Yea, if you make your own dichro mounts they are far less. They will be a lot harder to adjust but they will work.

What is a swf or ggw?
