Want a new laser, parents don't want me to buy

So I wanna buy a new laser, a 1W Spartan from DL. But my parents find it too much money for a laser and won't let me buy it. Does anyone have some good reasons to spend this much money on a laser so my parents might change their mind?
 





Build your own laser. Cheaper and you can say it is good for your education of electronic stuff. :D
 
Honestly, I know it sucks but there's not much you can do. If you get it, it'l be the first thing they take away if they get pissed at you. The only thing I can recommend is to do odd jobs or chores and earn your own cash, and spend that as you like. It totally sucks being a kid, I understand, but circumventing your parents never turns out well.

Study hard, do well in school, behave, and set yourself up for a good future. If you do that then when you're an adult you'll have all the opportunity and means you can handle to get yourself nice stuff then.

I'd stick with cheaper DIY builds for now, then you can "sell" the idea to your parents that you're learning hands on electronics and manufacturing.
 
It's my self earned money, I'm sixteen and my parents never take away my stuff since I'm never really annoying, my sister is though. I also get good marks at school so that isn't a problem either.

I have already thought about building my own laser but I'd love to have at least one laser that has CNI quality in a nice housing and from a company with great customer service.
 
im seventeen and i have the 1W spartan and my mum didn't want me to buy it but i didn't tell her and ordered it anyway so i say just order it and when it arrives theirs nothing they can do
 
Amen! I'm only 24 so teenage years aren't so far behind me. I couldn't understand my parents either but now that I'm married and make my own way I understand! Always remember that the harder you have to work or the longer you have to wait for something the more you will appreciate it when you finally do get it!!
 
If it's your own money I don't see what their problem is.

So, how do you talk them round? - and credit to you for coming on here first and trying to find out how to do that instead of just buying it behind their back :D

Well, as Sigurthr said, you could try and 'sell' them the whole idea of you getting into electronics/lasers as a new hobby which you're very interested in learning more about. You could point out how the price of the Spartan may seem high, but it's not particulary when there are lots of other 'hobby's' you could be getting into that would cost a lot more.
 
As mentioned earlier the best bet is to get one where you "build it yourself".
Well, that's at least how I got a 2.2W survival laser (I am also sixteen)
Not sure if you're in it for the color or the power, if you don't manage to get this one look for either high powered 405nm lasers or buy a 473nm off eBay (provided you are capable of doing some "work" on it, ie realigning and cleaning the optics) I mentioned the 473 because I love that color.
 
As soon as you move out and live on your own
you will be boss and will be able to buy what you
want when you want... after you take care of the
other life expenses...

In the mean time your parents are boss of where
they live....

Yeah that sucks.... I went through it too.... For me
it was a motorcycle...

Jumping straight to a 1W laser is risky in itself IMO. When I started out my parents said I'd have to get a "safe" one to prove I could handle not hitting planes, as they'd heard about people doing that on the news, so after like 6 months of having a 5mW green and not crossing paths with the law they were cool with my 150mW green, and the next ten lasers. The whole family is now accepting of my very niche hobby and amazed by them. :D
