This 445nm board was created to control the "flood" of posts when the 445nm diode (and the Arctic) were new. There has been some discussion as to whether it is now time to merge this 445nm board with the "Blue and other colors" board.

So should we:

Leave the boards as is?
Merge this board with the "other colors" board?
Make a "Blue Lasers" board and include 473nm, 458nm (and any other blue diode wavelengths)?

Peace,
dave

I voted for the first option because the 445nm WL is too interesting for most people right now and would eliminate the other WLs.

I also voted leave it alone. 445nm is just as popular as green or violet, and they have their own boards.

I vote for option 1. Just look at the postcount, 445nm deserves it own board. It is too popular now.

I would suggest leaving the 445 board, but changing the other board to 'exotic wavelengths' or something like that. I suppose the 650-635, 532, 405 and 445 nm lasers are all popular enough to deserve their own board.

The exotic wavelengths can cover both 473 and the yellow dpss lasers, as well as any others that may emerge. Blue argon lasers and such can be discussed in the 'gas lasers' topic, so i figure we would have everything covered.

This is a better idea, that way people know which one is "that awesome burning laser I saw my friend point at an airplane" (herp derp), but the people who are looking for these exotic wavelengths won't have to wade through the muck of people asking where they can get that lightsaber lol.

I voted to leave it as it is.

Aside from a heapload of knowledgable people and much information on the particular wavelenth of diodes, This board is one of the primary reasons I joined the forum.

As state earlier, 445nM is fairly popular and deserves its own forum like the reds and greens, Im still new here, so im a bit limited on experience in this matter.

Long time since I was here, but a nice surprise to see this 445nm(it's the first time I see it).
I chose option 3

Like red and green a separate forum for all blue wavelenghts (including this 445)
And all other.. for the exotic wavelenghts.

PS
I'm going to order this Spartan immediately I always wanted a powerfull laser(300+) and a blue one, but I couldn't been dreaming of a 1W blue one....

I voted option 1 but i think Benm's idea is the best. Keep the 445 stuff separate because it draws a lot of attention which I think would drown out threads on the more exotic wavelengths.

I agree that 445 is popular enough to be separate from the "other colors" section, but does this single wavelength deserve its own section- like the 405 and 532 sections have?

I believe Benm has got the right idea.

At least for a while until (if) it dies down.

This >1watt monster will be hard to top and they may be satisfied with it. If this is the case it will die down eventually and something else popular may come out (think green, even if it starts at lower powers).

Im betting on a 445nm 9mm ~3-5 watt version next though.

I think the boards should reflect the important "classes" of lasers/pointers available, not necessarily the colors. For example, if Nichia produces a green laser diode which are available like the 445nm diode, I'd rather have a separate green laser diode board than one merged with the 532nm DPSS lasers as "green lasers" because they're different varieties of lasers that should be addressed separately. The 445nm lasers should therefore have their own board.

The blue/yellow/etc. board is really just a catch-all for every other laser that is obscure enough to not require its own special board. I think it should continue to be the place where people seek out information for less widespread lasers like DPSS blues and argons and such, where they can receive proper attention without being overshadowed by more popular lasers within the same color category.

"Blue" board with other blue lasers (after all, it's "blue" :p), if this don't cause management problems, otherwise left it as is, imho ;)

Thanks to the 445nm's, I think there are enough blues for a separate "Blue Lasers" board.

Plus it completes the primary colors.
