Got a 5 w 450nm and ordered some cheap goggles which cover the wavelengths of like 405-450 nm , they are green coloured material. I have also removed the lens of my laser and although ima self described noob I didn't see anything in front of the diode that looked like a IR filter. Laser came from China and I can imagine it's unlikely it has an IR filter (unless it is inside the diode module where it isn't visible). Question is even if my glasses block 450nm waves but the laser lacks an IR FILTER will I be endangering my vision using only the 405-450nm goggles? Also is there a way to test if the laser has IR filter? I would appreciate greatly any insight by a qualified hobbies the. Thanks again, Derek

405-450nm lasers don't emit IR. Only 473nm, 589/593.5nm and 532nm do.

Razako is correct, but I'd like to add that 473nm and 589/593.5nm manufacturers almost always install an IR filter. Because 532nm is very cheap, it tends to be the main culprit with IR leakage.

In addition, your laser probably is not 5W. It is more likely 1-2W being that it is from China and the 5W diodes are quite expensive.

Is it impossible that a Chinese company could produce a 5 w diode for cheap? Maybe they reverse engineered the high quality ones or something??

Based off your looking at the pics would u say the lenses is glass or acrylic

Using an acrylic lens with a laser of this power would be a very bad idea. The lens would be melted quite quickly. It is almost certain to be glass.

Do you think the lenses is acrylic or glass from the pics u saw on the site

I said already that the lens is almost certainly glass. It is difficult to determine from a single image whether the lens is acrylic or glass, but it looks to me to be a glass lens.
