Poll: Samsung Galaxy S4 vs HTC One

It's that time finally... time for me to upgrade my annoying, big, slow phone :p

Now I'm torn on which to get, the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the HTC One.

Both have their Pros, and Cons.

So which would you pick?

Look at the quadrant scores nothing beats a HTCone... We just got the 4.3 Android update for sprint that is. Next is sence 5.5 or 6. I'm on my HTCone right now. I pretty big con however is the oversensitive noise canceling software, but the camera is boss and the screen is hands down the winner.

They are both sweet phones, but the 2 front facing speakers and aluminum shell is pretty sweet. Now if they come out with the HTC maximum next year it will have all that and multi screens sdk2 whatever plus back to removable sd cards and battery.

I will say having that waterproof feature the SG4 has must be nice.
 
I'm leaning towards the HTC One, but having trouble with not being able to remove the battery.

The S4 is only waterproof in the Active variant, so while I thought about it, I'm definitely going to pass on it. I don't like having to deal with those rubber inserts for the USB or the 3.5mm jack.
 
There are heaps of pros and cons between both of them and many different factors that can influence which phone too buy.

Build quality: Obviously hands down the HTC one has the best build quality with its aluminum body. Although the s4's glossy plastic back and bezels means its very light and it gives it the option to have expandable memory and removable battery. A trade off is necessary between either of them. The question is which features are more important to you.

Processor: it depends on what s4 you get but if you get the international version it comes with its octa core exynos processor which is hard to beat. If you get the 4g version it comes with a snapdragon 600 processor which is the same as the HTC ones processor. Either way both will be very fast.

Camera: obviously both cameras are vastly different. With its 4 megapixel and much larger pixels the HTC one performs exceptionally well in low light. Although in bright conditions the lack of detail is apparent when compared to a higher pixel camera. The s4's camera with its 13 megapixel camera performs exceptionally well in bright conditions with very rich detail. However it does not perform so well in low light conditions. Both are very good. The one has a much better camera for low light but the s4 has very sharp detail in bright conditions

Expandable memory: The s4 has expandable memory whereas the One does not. Something to keep in mind.

Display: The s4s full HD 5 inch AMOLED display has very rich contrast and an extremely high pixel density at 441 ppi. The ones full HD 4.7 inch ips display has the highest pixel density display in the world (I think) at 468 ppi. Being an ips display the contrast isnt as aggressive as the s4's and it is exceptionally bright. Both have very good displays. The main difference being the s4 has higher contrast and the One has a much brighter display.

Battery: The s4 has a larger battery than the One and the s4 will generally last longer. (Not sure about the exact specifications, I'm just saying all of this off the top of my head :rolleyes:)

It all comes down to personal preference but personally I would choose the One because it has amazing build quality and HTC's sense UI is much smoother than the s4's UI. (from what I've heard). But remember that there are many other factors that could influence your decision between either phone. I'm sure you knew all of this already. Just in case it could help you make an informed decision ;)

Hence the extreme difficulty in making the decision.

In truth I didn't even consider any other phone except the S4, until I actually stopped by the store and started playing with them. That's when the One caught my attention.

The premium feel is a huge plus, but I have to wonder if it will actually make any difference since I'm likely to try using a case with both. That said I gave up on my case for my current phone months back, and still no problem. The S4 also has gorilla glass 3, which is a step up.

I'm definitely going to stop by the store and play with both more. :undecided:

I have the S4 brilliant phone then again ive had the S3 S2 and Galaxy S so I'm rather biased and used to the way they work, still tough decision ....um S4
 
Big pro of the s4 is the IR blaster. Never have to look for your TV remote again. Plus the TV app it comes with is pretty nice if you program it to your receiver. It will suggest shows based on what you like and you don't really ever have to channel surf for something good to watch.

Edit: Lol, the poll is tied! This is my exact problem, so much to like about both of these phones. It's a shame that I know as soon as I actually get my hands on one, a new version will be released, or at least announced.

Decided to go with the HTC One.

Using it in store, it just felt more refined to me in terms of how it responded.
 
Yup, that's a given I think. I HATE some of the useless crap carriers shove on there.

The only reason I haven't rooted my current phone, is I expected to part with it months ago, and it was a replacement under insurance.
 
Can I go against the grain here and say DO NOT root it.. and here's why..

Banking apps (in the UK at least) WILL NOT work on rooted phones, and word on the underground is PayPal ,eBay and Facebook are soon to follow suit.

If you had gone with Samsung, my advice would be different, Samsung fill their phones with so much bloatware its unreal, HTC don't, a few native HTC apps and that's it.

Oh, and rooting voids your warranty , even if you unroot it , they'll know.
 
Really, if I root it, undo it later, they would still deny warranty?

What about if I root it, but than it's the hardware that fails, like the screen? (Had that happened to a blackberry, they just replaced it despite it being rooted.)

I guess I'll try it out stock first and see how I like it. If it works, I don't have any particular desire to mess around with it. I spend majority of my time in front of a computer anyway, so cell phone is really just for calls, texts, emails, and pandora. For me that's literally 95% of the use. The other 5% is as GPS, and checking the news when I'm stuck waiting somewhere.
