pod mod gone bad... help!

hi...
I bought a 30Mw green laser pointer today, and I wasn't satisfied with it. so I tried pod modding... I read that I need to turn the pod clockwise, until it stops. so I turned, and turned, the laser only got weaker! I kept turning, and it got even weaker! now I turned so much that all I see is a red dot when I look at the lens. what to do? I think I'll try turning it back one rotation, and check if it lights. I will keep doing it until I see something... is that a good idea?
I feel so damn stupid... why did I have to try it? now I feel really bad about it... please, if you have any ideas, help!

Don't look into the red light! It's brighter than it seems and may damage your eyes.

Where did you read that?
 
Not all potentiometers will "stop."
Some will turn all the way around.
They will go from their lowest resistance to the highest, then back to the lowest.

Your pump diode is fried. Sorry for your loss.

Now it's time to read up and learn.

Edit: And that red light is infrared light from the pump diode. In this case it is probably only a few milliWatts, but avoid exposure anyway.
 
well their goes 20$, time to buy another this time buy the 50mw from the ledshop, i bought 3, 2 normal but one of them is a beast way brighter than the rest. so they are great.
Getting money for the less expensive lpm.
 
There is, but it's not easy and much cheaper just to buy a whole new laser. Although, if you say the laser got dimmer, maybe try turning the potentiometer the other way and see if it comes back again. If it does, then the laser might still be OK ....

But keep in mind, the pot wont stop, so just go until you think you should stop, any further and you will kill the laser.

If turning the pot either way does nothing, the laser is dead.
 
you can rip it apart to get the optics and see how it works if it is dead at least learn from it.

it got dimmer, then I turned it some more. it became worse, so I started turning it the other way, but I'm sure I turned it too much.
is anyone familiar with this specific model, and have you tried modding it?
 
I knew what happened before i even opened up this thread .
I've killed three or four pens by pot moddiong
 
YES!!!!
I opened the laser, and gave the pod a little 90 degree turn, and I saw a green light again! I gave it another little turn, and it's back to normal!
