Osram Opto Launches High-Power Blue Laser Diode For Professional Projectors

wow, wonder how much this guy can pump out before dying. Already at 1.4W at 1.2A, would like to see a chart taking it to the max.

Thank you for sharing this information. It has the same wavelength and power output as the diodes from C@$!0 projectors. I hope the beam spec is better.

The ones in casio projectors are 445 nm...

These are 450 nm.
 
27% efficiency? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a good amount more than A140/M140s? For those diodes we got ~5v x 1.2A = 6W, output of 1.3 or so Watts, Thats only like 21% efficiency right? So 27% is a pretty good boost!

No,
Nichia datasheet is 4.6v @ 1.2A = 1.6W output or 29% efficency
and at 25c

Osram testing is done at 20c.

note that the datasheets dont take into acount lens losses

EDIT:
also we dont actually have a datasheet for an m140
but from my expierence at 1.2A VF would be closer to 4.3V which would put efficency at 25% and that would be after the lens losses

I say it won't be single mode. First single modes are always weaker, as limiting the modes generally means limiting the power. Second there is no need, as the diode is not aimed to record or read data (405 would be better at that, higher resolution). It's IMHO aimed at projectors, as our loved 445nm diodes are. In such case, single mode is not needed, while power is.
IMHO it's just a OSRAM version of what we know. It looks like a bit better efficiency, and it's good to see. Also the price could be interesting if we could manage a GB from the original source.
