Wow, heat sink already done, a pyrostyro dream to make a new YT video showing how to pop balloons at a distance.
 


Snecho, I have an idea you should already know this, but since you put a "?" after quoting my last post, here's the deal:



Heat management (aside from high current power supplies) is a big part of the challenge when building high power portable lasers, with this module, all of that is already done.

Styropyro: YouTube personality who draws views/clicks by creating high power portable battery operated multi-diode lasers (among many other things), titling the videos with statements such as "200 watt laser bazooka", "...Invisible IR Death Ray" and other sensational titles. He's a young college student (maybe graduated by now, I don't know) who enjoys building the things the rest of us want to do, but don't. His videos often include him popping balloons with his laser or lighting flash paper for effect.

Being my inspiration behind lasers, I know Styro quite well. 😛 I was just confused by what your post was about. Probably because I'm just slow. Apologies.
 
I was being a bit sarcastic regarding the balloon popping :p

That's not really it though, I believe the laser hobbyist community takes a hit when some of the videos he posts are viewed by so many individuals, if he had few watchers no problem, but wow, he has a lot and when he makes our hobby look dangerous, it doesn't help us. That said, I like watching them too :) which makes me a hypocrite. Fact, lasers can be used foolishly, the same as any steak knife.

Chris when I read your post I thought for a moment that Drake had a new video out with the 31 array, I am waiting for the green array to hit the market, a 3x3 of 9 emitters would be nice but I expect it will be 8 laid out as 2 x 4.......could be 3-2-3 on 3 rows or even a center surrounded by 7 more, we shall see if/when it comes.

I need to get around to finishing my build with this! Mainly so I can beat y'all to making the first one. :D

I'll be jamming it inside this old radar gun I got from MarioMaster. I still need to make the heatsink, and since I don't have any good machining tools I'll just be going at a big block of aluminum with an angle grinder. I'm not looking for long run times, just a stupidly powerful handheld laser.

What happened?

My last post here asking Styro to show the spot picture at 1 and 5m and his answer to do it have disappeared from this thread!

I had an idea - in an ice maker there should be a compressor cooler inside - would it be enough to build a powerful cooling device.
I read that compressors are bigger but this old technology is still much more efficient than TECs.

I looked into this--Much smaller and cheaper would be a hot/cold USB coffee cup 'holder' (but MYB not--they do not very hot or cold very fast.)
~$5 at eekbay auction--you may need to bid on several listings to get one that cheap w/free $hip.
THEN I picked up an abandon ice chest which has both cold and hot-- nice fan- big heat sink and runs from cig lighter 12vdc-(or any 12vdc source)
While it IS much larger IMHO it would still be better than something from an ice maker...,,,,,just sayin'

You sound like a parts hoarder like me. lol! Im bad!!!

I'm sure you already know this but you can buy a TECs dirt cheap on Amazon or eBay. This is just the ceramic junction itself, no driver, heatsink and or fan.

Years ago I bought a dozen just to play with, cost was like $30. They worked for a bit but eventually burned them all up, didn't know they had to be current regulated. Lol!
 
Are these 31's in use in a DLP projector yet ?
Is this what c@s1o is calling their (R laser) ?
