Nintendo zapper

I finally got my blue-ray PHR laser working, after some vigirous testing. DIY laser is not the easiest thing in the world, atleast if it is done correctly.

Now it is time to step up for my second project: Installing the 445nm 1000mW casio diode in my nintendo "zapper" duckhunt host.

The aixiz module with a quality glass lens should fit nicely in the big bore barrel and proveide addition of some adequate cooling. I also intend to run it at 1A, so i will not nearly be maxing it out.

Let the zapper project begin!

You'll need major heat sinking in that small bore, or you can kiss your diode goodbye in minutes. The driver also produces heat. Good luck.

Yeah, short duty cycles will be your best friend.

Awesome idea for a laser host, but like everybody said you will need some serious heatsinking for a host like that.

The trigger on this host will need some work. The zapper guns don't use "always on" triggers. When you press it, it presses an internal button then springs back. The internal mechanism prevents an "always on". It will be interesting how you resolve this issue.

I may just try a build like that as well. Probably use a lower power BR diode though, keep the heat issues to a minimum.

Now to see what a zapper retails for these days...

EDIT: Wow, they are pretty cheap, just grabbed one from eBay, $8 shipped.

I just finished one of those not too long ago. I only used a 6x diode so it doesn't get too hot but I also had a soldering incident when reworking the inside on the driver :cryyy: So when I get a new driver I will get some better beam shots. I am kind of nostalgic about old video games.(Zelda being the my favorite game growing up) I had Duck Hunt and Wild Gunman. I really like the idea of this host. I would want it in gray tho.(that was the color I had)

Now if you could only find something cool to do with the Power Glove since it was more than useless then.

I know the nostalgic feeling, I still have all of my Nintendo systems from the NES up, even have an original Gameboy although I don't think it functions. I had two guns, so I used the orange and I kept the gray to use with the system since it was the original. Yeah a power glove would be interesting to hack for something but I never had one. I may have to find one on ebay and see what I can do with it. I have a friend who is thinking of using one of the old PS guns to use as a host after seeing mine.

I realized this when i took it apart. This might however be a good thing, maybe i make it into a pulse laser typed gun. Like every click switches the laser on for a second or two. Would also help with the heat issue. I don't want to modify the outers of the gun so heat will definately be a problem if i make it continuous.

Maybe i will start with fitting my phr diode in there...

Sorta on topic. I just scored an original, original Atari in the original packaging with all the plastic wrapping with a Sears & Roebuck price sticker on it for $298!!! I had no idea this thing was that expensive in the 70's. The little old lady across the street asked me if I wanted it. Score! I don't know if it's worth actual money, but it's worth a grip to me for nostalgia
