wow I thought they could get the bluray diodes cheaper than what we are getting them for. Eather they're not or the supplier is totally ripping off KD.

EDIT:

it's cheaper than a sonar!!
well true it is alot cheaper than sonar..

Maybe they dont know the difference between 405 and 473?

That thought crossed my mind too. That has happend with other resellers, but 50mW? That would be more like $2,200 for 473nm right? "Warm up time 3 min"? Why do they look like RPL's? :-?

Does someone want to ask them? or are the kind of company that doesnt tell you much

Beam diameter: 1.2 ± 0.2mm
These are 473nm BLUE lasers. Someone should tell kai that these aren't blu-rays.
Btw $800 for a 50mw blue handheld isn't bad at all if these things actually work.

wait,a blue (473nm) laser wont create awesome fluorescence effects?

blu-ray (violet-ish 405nm) will make them because it's near UV.....but will a blue one?

Actually a blue laser will fluorescence on a lot of objects like a blu-ray. Here is a video of mine showing this.

do blu rays have a smaller beam diameter?
if that is not so, then how the hell did you work out the wavelength?

also as mentioned above, diode lasers don't have a long warm up time if they have one at all

@razako: awesome, never seen that vid.

but a blu-ray should have a better chance at fluorescing something, shouldnt it?

Blue rays have a larger beam diameter and they don't have a warm up period.

i thought blu rays could be focused to a tiny dot?
The Spec on KD is referring to the standard beam diameter at the aperture. Plus these are clearly blue RPL clones. There is no reason for a blu-ray to need a massive heatsink like that.
