New 3.5w diode at work

Greetings,


This is a new build using the NDB7A75 diode in one of my Scorcher builds.
I am using a 4 mode driver set at 3.9a with the 1st mode being 50% and 2nd 100%. It runs a little over 3w on mode 1 and just at 6w for mode 2.
I have a custom host I am hoping will arrive tomorrow with a massive heatsink. I have another 3.5w diode that I'll be using in that build,

Here's a video I did showing The Scorcher at work....Kids, do not try this at home !
This is a very dumb and foolish thing to do.

Granted the bag had already been burned a few times, so I know it was easier to start for that reason.
Still pretty cool....

Working on an LPM shot, but mine is only 3.7w so that will be a little while.

Thanks. I did have some reservation on posting it as I do not want to give anyone the wrong idea, but very true. Sometimes the most foolish things can be great fun, as long as you try to take every safety precaution.
Hopefully will get my parts tomorrow, and will post when the build is finished.

Thanks for the kind words.
I do try to take a few precautions, like not having anything nearby that could easily burn and keeping a fire extinguisher close.
My hands are fine as well, no burns, .

Looks like it will be a while longer on getting my new build completed. I am having the battery tube made differently than what I was going to use, so will be much better. I have the heatsink and front end of the unit now, the heatsink alone is 280 grams of aluminum !!
I'll post pic's of the build, and when finished once it's built, but here's a pic of my normal heatsinks, with the monster for the new build in the middle...

I finally got all the parts I needed for my Monster build. Mrcrouse did an awesome job on making the battery tube, 2x18650.

Here's some pic's,

The heatsink was also made by Mrcrouse and is 280grams Au. Assembled into the head total weight is 379grams. The driver is 4 mode with mode 2 being high, 3.9a. The diode is an NDB7A75 3.5w in a solid copper module. The base of the diode has arctic silver for best possible sinking to the copper module.

Here's the module with a coating of Arctic Silver.

Here you see how the driver mounts. I am using the same method I use in my Scorcher builds, inside the heatsink, but since this driver is a little different it uses screws. Being inside the heatsink provides the best possible heat dissipation.

The heatsink screws into the head and does so where you see the fins to dissipate heat. Temperature on the fins when warm is the same as the heatsink ! Total weight of the head is 379 grams.
All threads coated with Arctic Silver.

Since I had to use a different method for the driver, I had to use another option for the positive connection. Rather than putting the spring on the driver, it is on a contact board mounted in the end of the battery tube. The contact board has springs on both sides with a ring inside the tube for the contact board to fit against, and another to hold the contact board in.

And here is the completed build, :drool:
This build has perfect heatsinking, and at 50% power or about 3w, can run continuously and at full power over 5 minutes. Definitely one of my best builds.

I'll take some beam shots and also try and do a few more burning pic's as well and will post as I get the time
