Neodymium Magnets for Connecting Batteries...

I saw a kid on youtube (he's actually a member here) use a 10mm X 0.05mm neodymium disc magnet to connect two 18350 lithium ion batteries. I tried reading up on that because it gave me all sorts of ideas for creating different size battery packs; however, I didn't want to use this method if it would lead to negative results i.e., power loss or a faster than normal discharge...

If anyone has experimented with this and can shed some light on the subject, that would be awesome... Opinions are also welcome =)

I use them as "spacers" all the time in builds

Different batteries (even the same type) have different lengths

Sometimes you have to use one to help some "shorter" batteries make tight connections

Of course there will be an extra power loss, as it acts as a very small resistor. Not an appreciable difference though.

I use magnets on the ends of cells to connect them up to my li-ion balance charger. No side affects to doing it.

Saw how to solder magnets without rendering them useless and thought I'd give this a try till my massive mag light battery charger arrived. As long as the magnet is stuck to an enormous heatsink, they end up not being effected at all.

That's the thread I was talking about. Because of it I used a 25lb iron free weight as a heatsink. That thread just stuck in my mind when I got those large batteries. Thanks a million djQUAN!!!

Watts the biggest battery pack you guys have ever seen that was used for a laser?

I was curious too, so I tested it.

30* (8mm dia * 0.8mm thick) magnets stuck together measured as 0.7ohms on my fluke.

Not bad, considering you only use 2 per battery :p
