More Laser Douchebags






Like I suggested before, there should be a separate board for "Laser legalities" or something along those lines since the laws continue to tighten all over the world and morons continue to ruin it for the rest of us. It won't ever stop. It's amazing when it happens so close to home, just goes to show how many there actually are. Hopefully the paypal laser ban will help for all the idiots who want a cheap laser to shine at aircrafts and don't fully respect them since they probably don't care to pay more or look for ways of getting around it. Imagine what else those fools are doing with their lasers! :o
 
The problem is more that they know that lasers will be banned if they keep doing it but people have the impression that if they do it once or twice they will get away with it, now imagine 20,000 or so people with lasers all with that attitude then they end up banned.

I have to disagree. Stating that these "douchebags" even consider the consequences are given them the benefit of the doubt. I think they are just completely oblivious to safety precautions in general because not everybody knows the consequences, and I'm not talking about the ban, I'm talking about the punishments, even eyesight. If they knew what they were doing, I think they would reconsider for the sake of their own freedom, never mind for our laser-hood. The problem is that humans in general are absolutely stupid. Bottom line. And for the 20,000 morons killing it for the rest of us, there's 1,000,000 robberies, 1,000,000 murders, rapes, true crimes. Only, lasers are quite the "flare" when blasting a fully maneuverable POLICE helicopter. The problem is that lasers don't belong in ANYBODY'S hands, and for $30 got 30+mw of green. Not ANYBODY should drive a car, that's why they have licenses, insurance, registration. But your right in the account that lasers WILL get banned probably world wide sooner or later, and the truth is that there's no stopping it. We could stop destroying our planet if we buckeled down and made some changes, but that's NOT going to happen because humans are completely stupid. We'd rather continue destroying Earth and find a way to live on Mars. ;D
 
Deffinately a shock to see it happen so close to me. I live basically on the opposite side of Newcastle city center, actually in Newcastle it's self. You have about a two or three mile journey into the city and down onto the river, once across you're in Gateshead. God knows where abouts in Gateshead it happened, but that's too close to home, especially when I have a 200mW+ green. Gutting thing is, there's a good chance it's a helicopter that flies over mine some times, as it flies all over the north east.

Also just got told there was another attack reported in the paper, this time in Ipswitch. Can't find a link to that one...

It just seemed right to stop pointing it in the sky, it was fun at first, but when these attacks started happening in the UK, I thought it was probably best to just, not bother. But now I know I'm not going to bother as I don't even want to draw attention to my self and with that being as close as it was, I'm pretty certain they'll have their eyes out for lasers.

Thats probally the half of it.

Even downloading music, I know people who insist that their ISP wont cut off their service for downloading hundreds of songs yet their ISP has told them that they are monitering .mp3 downloads and they will be cut off if they are caught.

Uninsured drivers do the same thing, they know most people have insurance and they know what will happen if they are caught, yet they still think that they will get away with it.

The thing that infuriates me about these people abusing the right to use a laser is the fact they give the government the ability to ban it which makes matters worse. People will only illegally import them and then they will end up paying more money for customs to check packages and so on. Baning things is not a solution.
 
Now this is why I actually support stuff like the paypal/dx bans on cheap lasers. 90% or more of these incidents usually involve some kind ebayser/newish/dx laser. Why is this? Because the things are too damn cheap for what they are capable of. My first green laser was an Aries-35 from laserglow that I payed $200+ for and you can bet that I did the research before buying it and learned about general laser common sense.

Now people see $20 30mw green lasers on DX/Ebay/KD and just add it to their cart thinking it's just a fun toy to play around with like those $20 red pointers of 10 years ago. This of course leads to Rednecks/hooligans/idiots getting them and thinking that blinding police helicopters is good for laughs.

IMO any green laser higher than 5mw SHOULD cost more than $75 just to keep them out of the hands of idiots. Banning all of the crap lasers on ebay alone would probably reduce laser incidents by 50%. Imagine what would happen if people could buy cheap handguns on dx for $50...
 
I have to agree that it is pretty stupid of the person so basically since there laser at the helicopter thus pinpointing there location and where they live.

They basically direct them to where they live so they can get arrested...
 
i think even 5mw lasers should be hard to come by and expensive.


or maybe make it Mandatory to have to have a special licenses to BUY any laser.
 
I would strongly disagree with the idea of making it hard to obtain just about any laser. As I have been growing up, I have been seeing things all around me become banned and forbidden, and it saddens me. It is becoming harder and harder to pursue any sort of science at all without large amounts of suspicion, and the fact that I am a teenager makes me even less trusted. I want to discover the world and experience all of the wonderful things in it, and the idiotic choices of a small minority should not affect the freedoms to be enjoyed by the large majority. There are laws to prevent lasers being shined at aircraft, cars, in windows, etc. The banning of lasers would be just like the illegality of drugs: if someone wants them, they WILL get them. Raising the price would only restrict certain non-wealthy people from enjoying them. If the price of lasers were raised, I would not be able to afford them at all, because anything above $50 is a splurge for me. I would like to be able to enjoy the world of lasers freely and not be affected by the poor choices of a small group of idiots.

I'm 17, with a homemade diode from a dvd burner, and just ordered the dilda

Some would say I am too young, but it's not about age, it's about not being so fucked up in the head as to even have the thought to point it at a helicopter.
 
I must say, I was playing with my dx30 last night and a plane came past. I thought it would be cool if I shined it in circles around the plane, so the pilot might see this beam going round and round xD But I didn't because some people might have thought it was an 'omg laser terrorist!!!!111oneoneelevenonehundredandeleven
 
As a small plane pilot I can say that if I saw someone pointing a laser beam "going round and round" in my direction I wouldn't be thinking "omg laser terrorist", I'd be thinking "omg wanker". Endangering someone else's wellbeing for a fraction of a second of Beavis-and-Butthead-level jollies isn't just juvenile and irresponsible, it's sociopathic.
