Lumia wheels for sale - maybe?






I might be interested. I have never made a lumia wheel. Do they make good beamshows?

Red will be going in my scanner later this week :D

They do not project beams. They project a very wispy moving pattern on the wall. You could still add them to your Spaghetti beam show and project them onto the front wall or the floor, ceiling, or wherever and it would be a cool effect.

Shine a laser pointer through a piece of glass (candy dish, drinking glass, whatever) with ridges or ripples in a dark room and you should be able to see the effect.
 
You never answered my PM. Can you hook me up with 1 of the motors for finding them on eBay for you? I dont want it free, but a nice discount would be appreciated.
 
Yeah, you got that set on ebay? I sent the seller a message, and he said they were 4rpm, so I thought they wouldn't be the best. (unless you got them elsewhere).

Yea, I got that set. I am going to try to mount the laser as close as possible to the shaft to keep the speed low. If doesn't work well enough I won't use them.
 
I know what a lumia effect is. My question is if you filled the room with fog and turned on your wheel would the beams produced look cool?

How exactly would you sync it to the software and for only $25? Different DAC?

I'm interested. If you could supply more details it would be nice.

Also if you posted this in the BST section you would get a lot more responses...
 
Lumia wheel effects work by a slow rotating disk with a static laser beamed on it. This is how you get the wisp effect. A 4 RPM disk with moving laser beams wont look right. If it did, they would incorporate them into scanners. The glass defuses the beam, so you would not see any images/shapes/beams through the glass. It would look like crap because there will no be lag time for wisps to animate.

What is your problem? First you want me to give you a discount for posting an ebay link and then when I don't you say that the lumia wheels will look like crap. First, I am not going to waste my time finding a box, packing it up, driving across town to the post office, and mailing you a motor at a cheap price just because you spent the 30 seconds to type "hankscraft" into Ebay search and then post the link on here. Get frickin' real. Next, where do you think I got the idea for usiing a lumia wheel at a laser show? AT A FRICKIN' LASER SHOW! They use them in laser shows all the time.

The motor is 4rpm at 3v. I can lower the voltage and get the RPMS down. If I move the laser close to the shaft it will effectively be even lower. The motors should be just fine. You obviously know that since you have been bugging me to send you one.

No. Lumia wheels do not produce beams. To use a lumia wheel you need to project it onto something. So, instead of pointing it to the audience you can point it to a wall. The lumia wheel will not be part of your projector. It would be in its own seperate enclosure so you can move/point it anywhere you want. Be creative. To control it you can use a cheap USBMicro U401 or U421 device (google it) and that will give you USB control. Spaghetti supports these devices. You could even hook up other things to these devices such as a strobe or fog machine.

I don't know what the BST section is.
 
I spent almost an hour finding the company, what type of motor it was, and places to get them. I was lucky to find some on ebay. I didnt have to say anything. WTF you cant throw me one for $10? You paid just over $30 for 9. So you'd have 8 for $20. I'd call that a good profit, considering the are almost $20 each. And you would have made a friend in return. Keep your 4RPM used motors. they wont work if you drop the voltage.

You should read my post more clearly. I said that a moving beams would defeat the lumia effect, so Spaghetti will not help the effect.
