Looking for a flashlight battery to replace AAA's

I recently bought a 12 LED flashlight that takes 3 AAA batteries. You install the batteries by placing them into a cylindrical battery case, and slide that into the flashlight casing. What I would like to do is use one short battery (about 34mm or less in length, and about 24mm or less in diameter) instead of three AAA's. Is this possible? Is there such a battery that has the same voltage & mAh as three AAA's?

18650 is a decent starting point. If it's too long for your host, try 18650, and if it's too thin for your host, try 22650.

18650 & 18500 are a tad longer than was I was hoping for. I think I found one that might work - 18350 is short enough, and the 18 mm diameter is good, but it is 3.7 volt, 1500 mAh. Will one 18350 battery be sufficient enough to power a flashlight that is meant to use 3 AAA's?

3.7V is nominal voltage for lithium ion. 4.2V fully charged.

Chances are, all LEDs are in parallel with the battery. If is a fancy model, it will also have a resistor based "driver." If it has a resistor, it will be more likely to work. Without one, it probably will still work, but be mindful of burning out LEDs on a fresh battery.

22650 is a hair too long to directly replace the 3 AAA cell adapter, but it can be crammed in. You may have to cut the spring on the end cap. Diameter is just about perfect.

An unprotected 18500 should be just about the same length as a typical cylindrical 3AAA holder. I use 18500's in all my 3AAA flashlights. Just need a little cardboard/plastic to prevent sideways rattling.

You could use a 22500 good luck finding them. They are out there so keep looking.
