Be extra careful about back reflections. You'll be pointing a beam into a telescope and all of a sudden a fully reflected reflection comes shooting out back through the eyepiece toward your face! Or you'll be looking down into the tube to see where the beam's going and then ... BEAM IN THE EYE!!!!!

Yes especially with newtonian type scopes
 





Has anyone here tried SLR lenses? I'd be interested to know what happens, as there aren't any mirrors so the efficiency would be higher. And ~$100 for a telephoto is pretty cheap for a beam expander.
 
I have one of them too in the shed a friend dropped and broke the mount on I had forgot about.I'll have to play with it when I get time and a decent laser built.Being a packrat has it's perks!
 
This is very dangerous and illeagal and just not a good idea in general!
So just don't do it find a entertaining use for lasers that won't get you a felony!

That being said YES this "idea" does work I am a co-owner of a high powered laser that uses the identical optics of the Hubble Telescope to focus a LETHAL beam over HUNDREDS of MILES! My "team" modded our coil laser into a Boieng 747 this is a multi laser mod as the on board computers use several "focusing" lasers to correct for atmospheric distortion then adjusts the beam divergance accordingly, it also has the ablity to track and destroy targets at range!

Here is my team to explain it furter and actual footage!!!
Listen carefully at 1:44 in the clip for proof we use Hubble style optics for focusing our beam!

Just be glad that is our technology! :gh: Guys the physics of this will work using "telescope style optics" with a high powered laser you could keep a beam focused over a long distance and still burn! (hint; Hubble uses a parabolic mirror that has like 0.000001 of a inch tolerance) Using glass lenses in a traditional telescope most likey will drop your output but may focus furter away. I think with expirementation and a possible combination of Microscope and telescope lenses into a handmade apperature with a very high powered laser may be able to burn at greater distances. Using a toy like that will get you another demonstration of your tax dollars at work, that would be the FBI or local police confiscating your beloved laser and carting you off for questioning! :whistle:

Just wondering has anybody tried using a microscope at normal or close ranges to see if that could increase the burning ability?

Hope this informs and discourages! Plus those are just BAD*SS lasers!!
