It shouldn't. But keep in mind, this will only work with with simple low power laser pointers. Anything with a real driver is going to filter out the voltage differences the transformer is adding.

The one in the video works only because the laser probably only has a current limiting resistor instead of an actual driver.. fairly common for ultra cheap red pointers.

If you want to do something similar with a high powered laser, you need a driver that supports analog modulation. Then you just put the transformer in line with the voltage source driving the modulation input and the result would be the same. Since your dealing with an audio signal, which is AC, You probably don't want the modulation input at more than 4v though, to leave some overhead for the top half of the sine wave in your signal.

i finished it. its quite amazing :P i was pretty excited i actually got it to work. thanks for the help :) I still want to clean it all up cause its not in a housing or anything. just a lot of lose wires. i'll post some pics when its complete
