Keeping batteries in laser pointers..

So i have a couple cheap laser pointers from amazon.com (5mw) And i'm just wondering if anyone knows if your supposed to take the batteries out when your not using it or if it is ok to just leave them in there all the time. they are all aaa batteries
 





I leave mine in, the only time I take them out is when they are dead.
 
I don't keep any batteries in my lasers for safety reasons. With some of the higher powered handheld lasers out there it's like storing a loaded gun for some one to find :eek:
 
I don't have kids around my house, so unless my cat can get them out of my cabinet so he can lase the dogs I don't worry about it too much.

Same. And the only people that are ever in my room are me and my girlfriend. Obviously if there is a risk of a child getting it or something I would suggest taking the batts out unless you have a gun safe.
 
It's still a really bad idea to keep batteries in lasers do to the possibility of them leaking acid all over the inside of your laser. It obviously depends on the type of batteries you're using as well.

Yeah, they could leak. (usually not acid but electrolyte fluid) It's happened to me more than once, although not with a laser. I still leave my batteries inside, but not for more than a few months.
 
I always take my batteries out of my laser when Im done using it and put them back in the box along with the laser.
 
I left some batteries in a laser i lost for about a year, was under a sofa (god knows how) and the temp woulda gone from around 5 deg-30 deg. No leakage just drained batteries.
I wouldn't have left them in by choice but i hope this info helps you.

This except for I have a dog instead of cat. If there was a risk of someone doing something I'd keep them secured. Once I move I'm going to get a to get a couple locking cases meant to hold three or four hand guns. I may get a rifle case to hold my HeNe tubes as well.
 
So there's no chance of it messing up the diode or the driver....? I was thinking about this earlier today Because I always take my batteries out and I ask myself why I do it...... I didn't come up with anything lol
 
There's not NO chance, it is just a SLIM chance that the batteries will leak electrolyte all over the place. Tell you what, store your pointers so the driver end is above the battery compartment, and then there will be NO chance the batteries can leak on anything important.

If you're going to be using them often and check every couple of weeks, there's no reason you can't keep the batteries in, from a non living-being-related safety point of view.
 
I keep 'em in. Leaking batteries be damned!

Now if you're not going to use it for a looooong time, meh, maybe take them out.

I keep them in my lasers that I use often, but not lasers that I don't, such as my 445nm's and my 405nm from DX which once fried two batteries and the batteries started burning.. The laser still works but I'm too afraid to use it. And when I use it I make sure I have gloves on me, last time when the batteries started burning I had burn marks all over my hand........
 
New york so this ruin a chance in like maybe The depletion of batteries does a trickle charge.. I don't know I have a lithium ion battery in my drill at work and it dies after while even if I don't use it..... okay here you go will it hurt the life of your batteries... as far as depleting overall lifetime........ if I get a bunch of no's in replied to this question I'm just leaving my batteries in it forever lol!!!!!!!
 
I find it's safe to leave in. BUT!!!! Don't take it into a steamy bathroom. I did in a sure fire flashlight and they exploded.
