Is an X-Ray emitting laser pointer possible?

You guys will probably think I'm stupid and dangerous for asking this question, but would it be possible to have a handheld laser pointer that could fire a directed beam of x-rays. If so, could there possibly be a handheld gamma-ray laser pointer?

"Uneducated" and/or "clueless" might be better terms in your imagined description of yourself. How dangerous are you?
Too lazy to use google to help sort out your daydream question from the real world possibilities?
In imagination everything is possible--not so in the real world.

All other issues aside the answers are No and No, not with today's technology and power sources.
Search x-ray and gamma ray lasers on google --a lot of articles there.

You can read about a gamma-ray laser possibility here: http://positron.ucr.edu/publications/2004/2004prospectsformakingaboseeinsteincondensedpositroniumannihilationgammaraylaser.pdf

It *might* be possible to make a "handheld" Xray emitting device with todays technology, but at best you would end up with an Xray "flashlight" where the Xrays just spill out an aperture in a cone pattern. The dangers with having that much high voltage and a machine that just ***** out Xrays in that manner would be a major risk, and could probably get you in trouble real quick.

Any device capable of outputting x-rays is hazardous, let alone a xaser. Think of it this way, a 1W torch shines bright with visible light yet doesn't do much damage. Make this a 1W laser and you've now got a very hazardous light source. Now change visible light to ionising x-rays. Ignoring the biological affects alone, that could easily become a very intense beam due to the shorter wavelength. The torch in that comparison is capable of harm, so a xaser is definitely a cause for concern.

X-Ray and Gamma Ray handheld lasers is just a fantasy. But, the desire to want an X-Ray emitting device for fun is terribly irresponsible. The gamma ray emitter device is just a fantasy too.

For a hobbyist, x-ray lasers would be kinda silly, why fore? Too dangerous anyway, as others have remarked.

Geez, you dont have to be so mean about it. I was just curious.

The forum isn't so mean these days, you shoulda been here four years ago.

I was talking about Encap's mean reply to a question that was asked out of total curiosity of our technological abilities these days.

The point was, a simple Google search could have answered all your questions and more. None of us like to spoon feed information to people who just don't like to read. If you plan on being a contributing member here, you must ask intelligent questions. Not silly ones that a simple search would answer.

CONGRTULATIONS on making it over 100K in reputation, Lildutchboy7.

Oh, hey, cool! Thanks! When I first got here having a few thousand rep was a big deal. It's weird to see how much it has inflated since then
