Okay, so I wanted to add a butterfly knife to my collection, for the fun of it. I bought a random one on Dealextreme, not even looking at the size etc. It arrived today. HOLY SHIT, THIS IS A HELL TOOL. The freaking blade is 12cm, 8cm of sharpen part. I was terrified when I first opened it, although I must admit I'm starting to like it. It's really heavy and sturdy, although the wooden part isn't wood but plastic, I ensure you it looks like if it was a 50$ knife.

However, if you get caught with this, forget about seeing again, this is 100% an arm.

Please be very very careful if you intend to flip this butterfly knife. While it may appear to be decent quality, almost every cheap balisong I and my friends have owned for flipping have broken. If this breaks on you mid-flip you may cut yourself or someone else badly.. or even put one of your eyes out, stab yourself in the throat or something similar.
Cheap balisongs should be for display purposes only IMO. The risk of using one is too great.

I'll keep it mind, thanks.

I however do not plan to do anything else with this a part from using it as a throwing knife, which shouldn't be dangerous, right? (of course, in the middle of the forest against a tree, I mean :D )

haha. That guy will always make me laugh, so bad there's no RSS subscription option :(

you mean there in USA :(

@ Hallucynogenyc, check out the added info. on my prior post. If you want to order something, just find someone here (in the USA) to accept the order & forward it to you in SPAIN. rob

I have a Stiletto switchblade :eg:

I still have scars on the back of my hand from my old butterfly knife. Put some duct tape on the blade till you get used to flipping it around.

This is the cheapest place for knives that I've found. http://budk.com/

Throwing a knife like that is definitely a torture test for it. I've collected many different types of knives, from many different manufacturers. After watching the Coldsteel "Proof" and "More Proof" dvd, I rarely buy any other brand. If anyone wants a dvd, they send them out for free.
As far as automatics....MicroTech has some bad ass selections. The make assault rifles too. I'm pretty sure you have to be LE or military to order anything from them though.

Edit: I'm sure you know this already...only one side of that knife is safe to hold if your going to be flipping it around. Sounds obvious, i know. I have met so many people who didn't know that and have scars on their hands still...or at least got some nasty cuts

Mine was double edged, so I was screwed either way. I got really good at it though. Being cut gives you incentive to use your dexterity to its fullest.

Sweet deal, I love collecting balisongs. If you think you find it interesting, check out bladeforums.com and go to the balisong/butterfly knife area, I have been a member for a while. and yes, those CCC(charming china cheapies) are really dangerous to flip with, had people lose the blade mid flip! Check out Benchmades model 51 or Bradleys Kimura 2---excellent balisongs!

TJ, you couldnt be more right! We find that those who practice with a taped blade tend to have a less fluid style when they flip! To each there own applies here!
