If "whatev" can stretch to an aeroplane ticket and accommodation, I too am in!
If it can't, the next best thing is to read and look at how other people's builds work, and learn by trial and error (always have 2 diodes, one *will* die the first time you build one!)

Everyone has to murder a diode first time! Make it a cheap one....

Where in central FL. do you live. I live in Lakeland.
I might have one Sunday free to show you the basics.
To be really good at it, you would have to learn the amount of info. you would have to know for a college course.
I don't claim to be an expert, but I have built a dozen or so. Pointers ,flashlight style and labbies.
I also have been dabbling in making my own hosts. ( I own a small machine shop)
I make most of my own drivers, when size doesn't matter.
I am also experimenting with modifying LED boost drivers ($2.88 a piece) to run PHR LD's also.

If someone asked me to come help them with something I was good at.. building a computer perhaps.. supplied all the materials, bought me food, smoked me out.. I would consider doing it. As for learning electronics, optics and physics in an afternoon.. I don't need to learn the theory and history of lasers and electronics. I'm sure assembling a laser is not rocket science. I'm not an idiot, i could learn how to put together a laser in an afternoon. You don't have to act so condescending, if you think its a bad deal, then don't take me up on it.. some people LIKE to share their knowledge.
