im completely new too lasers... got into it by watching a couple of vids on youtube.
Decided to disect my dvd dual layer drive, ended up with to lasers.
Now what ???? :-? :-? :-?

Im the noobiest noob with lasers

Please post comments teaching me basics eg how to determine things like ma and nm i dont even know what they are.

I was intendign to build a laser that can burn with my diodes .... but i dont know how..??

Please feel free to give me anyyy advice

You are going to need eye protection anyway if you are going to make or buy a laser powerful enough to burn with or over 5mw. And you will ;D. Welcome to the forum Oh and read , read and read some more.

1.You need goggles I suggest http://www.dragonlasers.com/
2.If it is a dvd burner it will have a high power (150-300mw)
3.You need a driver, a rckstr one would work fine at 400ma
4.You it preset or have a test load
5.You also need a host, aixiz/mendrith module and batteries (well duh)
6.THEN READ THE FAQ!!!!!!!!!!

First off, if that drive also burned CD's, I think there's a good chance that one of those two laser diodes you got out of it might be a IR laser? :-?

If so, you probably want to figure out which is which. Infrared laser light can reflect off of things, and is invisible, your blink reflex will not protect your eyeballs while they are getting fried, so you might not see anything - until it is too late!
