Help with driver for 1W 808nm IR

Hi to everyone!!

I need your help, masters. Recently acquired a 1W 808nm IR LED and according to the specifications for optimum performance it is necessary to 2.2 Vout and 1.2 A. The problem is that I can not find a specific driver for this diode. Did you know where can I find it?

But one question. Would not be then necessary exactly 2.2 v. out, right? I supposed there's no problem to break the diode.

It's a constant current driver. It will supply 900mA no matter the load (within reason)
 
you know the 1W ir diodes are case positive too dont you?

i built a custom negative regulator driver that drives at 1.25A

So is it an LED or a laser diode? :thinking:

Fiddy: as I've said elsewhere, you can't just reverse the polarity and expect it to work. Additionally, you need much more voltage.

Cyparagon, I was not clear whether if the output voltage was a critical factor. But now I understand it is less important than a current (A). And thanks for de DX link. I think that this driver could work fine. But what do you think about this driver? Could work too? Link

HaloBlu, thanks for this information. Security is very important for me. A want to buy a good gogles. In this moment I have not intention to mount my own IR laser. I need more information before work with it.

Yes, that driver will work, too.

Its a negative regulated LM317T not a positive.

I'm pretty sure the lm317 is a positive regulator by definition. You can put the whole thing after the load instead of before the load and it will have the same effect, but I am almost certain your schematic will not work.

well then, explain to me why hooked up how it is, it produces ~1A on the test load, and the laser lases?
 
Which test load? If you're talking about 3 diodes and a 1ohm resistor, you could hook that up to a battery directly and probably get 1A.

Maybe there's a path straight through and the resistor is acting as a current limiting resistor. I seriously doubt you're getting any kind of regulation though.
I'll hook it up tomorrow and tell you more.

oh wait its a LM337T not a LM317T sorry for the confusion if that's the point you are arguing? :twak:
