help me make a 24x laser

i am planning to make a laser out of a 24x dvd burner, but i'm new to this and need some help. will the diode in this dvd burner work? HP - 24x Internal Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - DVD1260i

and if possible could someone please send me a list of all the other things i might need and where to get them?

Getting that one would be a bad idea mate especially when you can buy the diode or a sled to extract a diode from usually under $10 for around 200mW. Yes you will need a module as it is required for focusing and you will also need a driver so your laser doesn't fry when you turn it on.
