Hello:
I'm new on the forum and am eager to learn. A coworker told me about one of the newer laser pointers he had purchased, and that led me to buy one of the DX SD Laser 303s (green). It is advertised as a 200 mW laser, and it is extremely bright. I've only run it for a few seconds at a time, and can see I need to learn more about it before going further. This one didn't come with any laser class listing or warning labels or info. It does have the safety key switch in the tailcap. I would appreciate any advice others may have about this. I'm assuming it is a Class 3B laser for safety purposes.
Thank You

Welcome to LPF, yagermeister!

Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy your stay. :yh:

Be sure and take advantage of the "custom search" bar at the bottom of the page, there is a lot of great laser information to be found there.

Welcome to LPF :). With these cheap lasers you can never really be sure unless you use an LPM.

Try watching this video by Styropyro and see if it helps at all. https://youtu.be/woiTedSKPrk

You should buy some eagle pair safety goggles from survival laser to ensure you do not inflict damage to your eyes as even a simple mistake could cost you your sight.

Welcome to the LPF, from another Washingtonian. I am in Tacoma. Where are you? That laser you bought is at best 80 mW, not 200 mW. They are lied about all the time by Chinese sellers to try to extract more money out of unsuspecting buyers in the US. If you paid more than $9.00 for it, you overpaid. ;)

I appreciate everyone's welcome. I spent a couple hours last night searching different topics, and can see there is a wealth of information here. I'm in Richland, in S.E. Washington State. I think I spent a little over $7 so was not expecting too much. Believe it was advertised in one place as 1000000 mW or something ridiculous. I appreciate the advice and links you've sent. I was just going to ask where to find a decent pair of laser safety glasses. I checked power consumption and this laser used 0.432 amps at 3.865 volts, so roughly 1.7 watts. I was curious just how efficient these are, but will treat it as if it is a 200 mW laser just to be safe.
Thank You

 Welcome to the Forum...
The only way to really know the output
of any Laser is with a Laser Power Meter.

Enjoy your stay.

You can't go by the power consumed from the battery to give you any kind of idea what the optical output might be. Especially with a cheap DPSS 532nm laser. Like lasersbee said, the only way to know is with a good, calibrated laser power meter. If you continue in this hobby, you will want one of those.
