Dorcy Jr Heat sinks Available Now!
Order page is now up here: http://mysite.verizon.net/grall/darkhorsecustom/id47.html
Due to popular demand, I have produced a large batch of aluminum heat-sinks for use in the Dorcy Jr modification. These are precision-machined on all surfaces from "billet" 6061-T6 "aircraft-grade" aluminum. The outside diameter fits closely inside of the head of the Dorcy Jr host and is stopped by the small o-ring that originally sealed the plastic lens, ( a thicker replacement O-ring works even better). The inner-diameter Of the 'sink is a "slip-fit" for a LD-module, such as Aixiz, Sure and DX. The length is 3/8" (9.5mm), if you need a different length, PM me, we might be able to work something out.
There are two #6 set-screws that are tapped through the diameter to positively hold your module in place and provide good surface contact for thermal transfer, (a small amount of thermal-compound, such as Arctic-Silver may be applied to the outside of your module to further increase heat-transfer). A very small wrench is also included for these very small screws, (Dr Seuss?).
A note regarding fit:
A few of the modules have needed a light "press-fit" due to manufacturing tolerances on the modules, (my 'sinks are all the same)
. They are all start with 12mm-ish diameter material, but since this is not a controlled dimension, the manufacturer does not worry about this size. So far, 80 percent or better fit perfect, but I have had a total of 3 out of about 30 modules used that needed to be lightly press-fit. If I make the hole bigger, it makes a normal-sized module look off-center, even if it is off by only .010". I do not want my lasers having the "cock-eyed-DX-look", and I would presume my customers would feel the same. With all of that being said. If you really want to make sure your module fits perfect, I do have a small supply of modules that I have checked and fit for sure. these will be available for an additional charge.
Price
$15USD each +$3 S&H via 1st class USPS anywhere in the USA
International orders will be about $5 S&H, but please PM your address prior to ordering to verify.
My wife is helping with the packaging and shipping, (as well as the Web-Design), so these go out daily, and rarely take more than a couple of days to reach any point in the US, but if anyone needs EMS shipping, just PM me, and we will work it out with you.
Thanks, and happy building
Here are a couple of pictures, I could not resist playing with the BR while taking pictures :
