Filter 445nm light to produce white light?

I'm planning to build another 445nm laser soon, and I'm thinking I'll give it multiple power modes. I was thinking I could use a flashlight lens as a lens cap at the lower powers and have the laser double as a flashlight.

Would there be any way I could change the blue light to white light by shining it through the correct color of lens? I wonder if a yellow of orange lens would result in a whitish light.

Well .. you won't get white from blue by FILTERING. But you can get white from blue by turning some of that blue into orange by means of photoluminescence. I have nice orange box at home, which does almost perfectly this. You shine 445nm at it and the dot on it is clearly white, as well as diffuse reflection. Quite bright too.
So I guess the same could be done with transparent 'filter' .. but have I know about something like that ? Sadly not.

Most high power white LED's have royal blue emitters and than a layer of phosphors that convert the blue to white light. If you have any white LED emitters laying around, point a 405 or 445 laser at the top of the emitter and you will light up your room nicely.

Now, how you get a nice concentrated phosphor mixture and a way to not burn it up is another thing entirely. Sorry, I have no useful suggestions on that. I don't think any of the remote phosphor sheets and such that are readily available on the market would work in your application.

WickedLasers sells a "converter" called Phosforce that will fluoresce blue light into "white." I ordered one, along with a laser, during their "new management" sale in December. And I still await its arrival. I assume a Phosforce could be ordered quickly. Maybe it is only the lasers that seem to take forever. Anyway, I know many on this forum (rightfully) have a dim view of WickedLasers.
