Can someone answer this question . Is the 1ohm resistor a 1/2 or a 1/4 that I will use in the dummy load along with the 4 diodes. Or does it matter. Thanks

I use half watt, just because that is what I have, it is slightly tougher mechanicaly which is good for something you will use again and again.....To answer the question, it doesn't matter too much until you get to higher powered lasers.

[edit]I crossed with jayrobs post :) I recommend that you go for the 1ohm resistor, it makes everything safer, when connecting and disconnecting your meter as it not part of the circuit. [/edit]

just thought i would ask, I recently bought the groove drive and I saw that the 1ohm resistor was a different color band than what I had bought to make the dummy load. The 1ohm that i found at radioshack says 1 megaohm 1/2 watt. I cant find the same color band that is in my driver= brown black gold gold. radioshack color is brown black green gold. Still doesnt matter???

Pardon my lack of knowledge everyone. I'm having  some problems finding some parts. For the most part I have 99 percent of all the parts + extras for more than 2 laser builds. Have used digikey, stonetek, kenon,  all great (contacts)and  for the last part, THE 1 ohm 1/2 watt resistor radio shack does not have, except for the 1megaohm and the 1kohn which are not nedded. Very frustrating . Any help so I dont have to order this resistor and wait 4 more days to get my build on? Yes , Iam a newbie

Well... unless you have a "star trek transporter" or can send parts by phone...you're going to need
to pick them up... or wait for them to arrive.... ::)

DigiKey has some 1/2 watts................ Search part # PPC1.0BCT-ND on their site..

Jerry

Well, my "star trek transporter" does not work any longer. HAHAHA :) :) :). Thank you to everyone in this post for helping me out. Thanks Mike

I purchased some 1 ohm 1/4 watt resistors from allelectronics.com. They don't have the 1ohm 1/2 watt resistors, however I find their site easier to navigate than Digikey.

I'm in Canada and DigiKey is in MN USA...

If I make a Digikey order today before 8:00PM.....
I will have my parts in my hands by tomorrow Noon.... :o

On the Other hand.. if I place an order with All Electronics....
I will have the parts in my hands in 2-3 Weeks... :'(

Well, I'm in Central California and All Electronics is in Southern California...

If I make an All Electronics order today....
I won't have the parts in my hands for about a week. :-/
Sometimes they surprise me and I have them in a couple of days, but never as fast as Digikey delivers to you. WOW!

Angel.

Digikey does seem to be the fastest on shipping. I ordered last thur 6:00pm and parts arrived sat noon stanard mail. not bad at all

Take your DMM down to RS and measure their 1/4 or 1/2 watt 2.2 ohm
resistors and try to find 2 that are 2.0 ohms and put them in parallel.
Or 3 x 3 ohm in parallel, etc..

Maybe DigiKey ships in the USA by Mail... I wouldn't know... :-?

But DigiKey ships to Canada by UPS Express...
with no Brokerage fees... and almost any order
size for $8.00 Cnd.
Can't beat that... ;)
