Hi
I'm just about ready to build my first laser and have a question
I will be following jayrob's tutorial for the pocket pal
I have all the parts I need but I'm sure I remember reading somewhere about shorting contacts/capacitors before attaching the diode ?

I have a flex drive,Phr-803T Diode and will be using the driver test load from this thread http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/driver-test-load-phr-803t-schematic-40482.html

any tips ?

Set the driver current (using a test load) to ~90-110 mA. Use any small piece of metal to touch both laser diode pads on the flexdrive simultaneously. That will bleed off any residual charge left on the board.

It works thanks guys :yh:
just a quick question I set up the driver using three rechargeable battery's
if I switch to non rechargeable battery's will the driver still output the same current ?

What did you end up setting your current at? Regardless of your answer I am now going to attempt to pressure you to turn it up further :P. :D your build looks great. Good job!

I set it at 100ma as it is my first build
It is also the first thing (heatsink) I have managed to make on my mini lathe :yh:

Nice machine work! If my matchbox I call a house had a garage I would love a few machine tools like a lathe and a small mill / drill press.
