Hey all just out of interest when whereing the goggles and looking at the laser point it looks like a line and not a dot, Not ever having a laser that i need goggles to look at i am confused should it be a dot, It also looks like it spreads wider over distance which i sort of understand.

How do you expect us to help you if you don't post any pictures or even mention what laser you are talking about?

I assume it is a 445nm laser, and in that case a rectangular beam is completely normal. It shouldn't be particularly noticeable if the laser is well focused though.

Had email back from Manufactuer it is normal apparently, yes its a 445nm laser its a Wicked Laser Artic but i will no doubt see the bad comments flow lol..., Thanks for comfirming anyway,

Reading on the Forum would have netted you
the information you were looking for.

A single mode LD will usually give you a round dot
profile.
A multi mode LD will usually give you a ----- profile...

Thank You :)

Besides the dot (single mode) / line (multy mode) issue, every laser has its DIVERGENCE. That is what you describe as 'looks like it spreads wider over distance'.

Some laser diodes have good divergence, i.e. the dot will not spread very wide, and some have bad divergence i.e. the dot will spread wider.

But at each type of divergence, the dot will spread.

Awful, unless you like that sort of thing :D
