And they are small enough that isolating them shouldn't be an issue.

I have a .brd somewhere for a small 7135 board, made to slide over the diodes pins.

Its just acting as a current sink , there will be 350mA flowing though the diode and the regulator to ground + any supply current on the VDD pin to the regulator itself

Assuming the diode was case isolated then running the driver case ground would work fine .

Thats what I was afraid of. Case negative will bypass the driver entirely
