Pages 3 and 4 really explain how they work and what the different wavelengths are used for, plus there is mention of 473 and 488 diodes.

Worth a look for those interested in laser diodes.

They state the importance of keeping the diode as cool as possible - heatsinking - for a long life:

Lifetimes in excess of 50,000 hours at room temperature are not
uncommon for most low-power visible and near-infrared diode lasers.
In general, operating life doubles for every 10C reduction in operating
temperature and halves for every 10C increase.
