Hey everyone,
I recently went out and bought all (or most) of the equipment i needed to build myself a laser. Everything i've setup so far has gone flawlessly but the only place i'm having great amounts of trouble is removing the laser diode from the actual lense holder. The DVDrom i had taken apart was a lightscripe 20x lg burner. I'm even more pissed because it was an open can diode - but i broke it because against all attempts i could not remove the alluminum support surrounding the diode in the burner - it was glued in with some heavy duty material and had no luck trying to melt it with my saudering iron or chipping away at it with a flathead. I'm normally a fan of trying things yourself first, and if unsuccessful ask for help...but i think i went a little overboard and ended up throwing away 50 dollars.
Anyway, the reason of this post was because I curious what methods you all have used to extract the diode from the lense holder. Which were successful and which weren't? why? and perhaps pictures
I don't know if something like this already exists, but it could serve as another good reference for what to do and what not to do when attempting to build your laser.
