haven't decided if it's better or not LOL anyway i'm at home with bronchitis the doc says and he gave me some pills and made me really high and had the briliant idea to use my lathe. The lathe didn't do too well, hitting the tool in the mandril was not a good idea. finished the head on the dx let me know how that turned out, better or worse than my lathe? I should probably paint it black though.

Better by miles. I wanted to do this as soon as I got it but well, not everyone has lathe access.

Use a drill a nut and a screw to hold it on the drill and a file. that's how I made just about everything until a friend saw me doing it and gave me his old mini lathe.

looks nice.
was that top solid aluminum?

Yes it's the original top that came with it, I've seen pictures around of the DX200 that look better built than mine I think they changed them after I got mine.

Or you can use a belt sander.  Nice head job btw!  :P I'm sure glad I didn't get that type of circumcision! :o

I seem to remember a piece of equipment called.....now what was it....oh yes..
A Hacksaw ::)

Thx ACE not everyone has a belt sander but most people have a drill. But a Belt sander would be a quick solution.

does that take away from the heatsinking at all? or is it designed terribly.
I dont have the red dx200...

I really don't think it would affect it much or at all because the lens assembly that is screwed in the head and then screwed in the barrel is plastic. not sure how much plastic transfers heat.

I believe the heat sink is the part under the head, you know, where a real circumcision takes place! The part he shaved I believe is not a heat sink, especially if it has plastic between.

Ahhhh, the lost art of cutting straight.... may I suggest a hand file.....( I feel I am showing my age here....)
The modern mantra seems to be, "if it aint got batteries I don't want it"......... quite apt when discussing this particular laser ;D

I was actually thinking to do a hand crank or bouncy magnet Laser Pointer we will see if I ever get around to it.
