Question for those in the know, please. I have read that one of the purposes of lasers is to get rid of unwanted birds. I know if you shine a laser at them at night, it scares them and they fly off. Do they see that laser in the daylight as well??? Even from a distance?

thank you for your replies...

Some towns have ordinances against pestering birds (as it often causes them to crap all over the place when they are startled) so please check local laws before engaging in said activities.

Also, birdscaring is generally frowned upon by this community. It is different if the municipality has hired someone to do it, than it is for someone to just do it for fun.

Edit: LOL Cyparagon. Awesome. +1 when it lets me.

If you use a Strong enough laser you can cook one while it is still in the tree and by the time it hits the ground it will be ready to eat. (make sure you pluck the feathers first!)

well, no need to worry 'bout me, I was just wondering about it. Still no answers! From say, a mile away, if you shined your laser at a flock of birds in the DAYTIME, would it have the same effect as it would in the dark? Anyone?
By the way, the 'laser-bug' has not gotten me like the flashlight one did. I bought (1) of Swims Greenie Super Overspec, and it is very nice. But I'm pretty sure it's the only one I'll ever get. The thrill isn't gone, but most of it is ":o) Now flashlights is a different beast. In the few months I was into that, I picked up I think, 13 of them, and cannot give you a reason, at all. I had several working flashlights before the 13, why would I need another one? Still ask myself that

logical one -

Since no one has given you an answer, that means that no one knows. I doubt that it will work in bright day light like it will in the dark. Never tried it, just an estimated guess. A 12 gauge shotgun works the best.

True, but if you want a less noisy (and more cuddly) solution, just get a cat. Although there are laws here if your pet kills wildlife.

What happened to you guys? I always thought of Australia as the last untamed territory with Crocodile hunters and Steve Irwin and Kangaroos that cold kick your butt and now you guys have weird porn laws, no lasers allowed and you can get in trouble if your cat kills a bird?

:yabbmad:

It's just not right I tell ya!

I always thought Australia was a prison colony.... and the laws they have passed have done nothing to disabuse me of that notion.

Got a cat, the little birds haul ass! But he still gets a few and brings them in the house while they are still alive. The big ones tease him. I guess I need a bigger cat. It is illegal to kill Magpies and Crows in Utah. (Those stupid bastards!):gun:
So what happens if they catch your pet killing wildlife? (that's f***ed up)

It's a fine based on the rarity of the bird :undecided:

Yes we stared as a prison country, now we don't act as a prison colony but still get treated like criminals. EVEN OUR NATIONAL FLOWER IS UNDER STRICT REGULATIONS!

And it's an EPA fine not a government one.

Have you ever considered a hunting hawk? :p

Lol, the laws over here are complete bullshit. Completely off topic but w/e :D
