Bought one of those $5 lasers from ebay it lit for a little while then went out? whats wrong? there's a red light coming out from the top is there any way it could be fixed or did i just loose $5

What is wrong is that you haven't done any research or reading on the
Forum.... If you had you would not even have bought a Cheap $5.00
Chinese Laser from eBay..

It will probably cost more to fix it.. than buy another one...
You can get Cheap <5mW red lasers at the Dollar Store for $1.00 each...
You could get 5 of them.... But they are still low quality.. :cryyy:

OR

You can read the tutorials and Stickies and the FAQs on the forum
and build yourself a BadA$$ Laser....

Oh.... BTW....

HAHA, well said. You forgot one thing though. That dim red light coming out is IR light. Just because you can barely see it doesn't mean it won't hurt your eyes. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH IT!!

We don't even know if it was a Red or Green $5.00 Laser...

Jerry

it was a green laser it lit green for a while then i put it down and when i tried it again it was'nt lighting :( but a dim red glow could be seen inside

DON'T look into the Laser's dim Red Beam it is Infra Red and much higher
power than 5mw...

Try fresh batteries... if it still does not work... your crystals have been damaged
or become misaligned... I would get another Laser in that case...

Jerry

When you a your car in for repair....
how can that be if it worked before...

I have no clue... I don't have the laser in my hands...
maybe it was partially damaged in transport... I'm just
guessing... The only thing I know for sure is that you said
it doesn't work any more...
You need to look at the big picture.... It is only a $5.00
Laser... You can't expect any quality in a Laser for $5.00...IMO

Jerry

if you even tapped the end of it hard enough changing the batteries, that could do it.

Another thing, those don't have threads in the middle, it is friction fit, try twisting the barrel a little in the middle while it's on.

Ahah, about 25$ will get you a decent green from Amazon.com. (If you get lucky)
Mine has been working for about 3 days now. So if we do the math...
5$/1 use 25$/3 days of use...carry the 1... cotangent of X.. some-odd radians.. ahh, w/e save up at LEAST a few more bucks and stop being such an idealistic shopper. :tsk:
I'm still waiting for my 25$ green to go out.

those amazon greens are not much better, i got one from a amazon seller called superdeal, rated 50mW, comes on around 40mW and quickly drops to 14mW, very shoddy quality, and the sticker says it complies with article.....something(complies with fda) yet it has not one single saftey feature

Probably so, but if one were to want a "starter" laser. I would definitely recommend it. Cheap, in all connotations of the word, but works. It has a bright green dot that goes many times further than a cheap red ever could (the reds that the OP is most likely accustomed to.) even in well lit facilities. Then, at night, there is an actual beam to see.
It is well worth the 25$ for a first laser, despite it's obvious lack of engineering. Whereas dollarstore/mall reds are not worth any sort of money and surely a broken ebay diode isn't either.

are you joking me?... Amazon is the worst place on earth for lasers, me and my friend bought a 50mW, and a 100mW, and they turned out to be 5 and 10mW!
dam if you want Beast lasers for expensive prices go to wickedlasers...

If you want Beast lasers for cheap, go to O-like and Rayfoss

I'm seeing more and more of these threads.
"My green laser went out, and now all there is, is a deep red glow inside of it."

This is "duh" for most people, I know, and Lasersbee mentioned it, but for the new folks, let me make it clear, and unmissable:

*NEVER* LOOK INTO A POWERED LASER'S APERTURE. FOR ANY REASON.

-Never do it, even if "the batteries are dead"
-Never do it, even if "it only says 5mW"
-Never do it, even if "it doesn't look that bright"
-Never do it, even if "you're wearing pretty good sunglasses"

Think about it. Would you look into a gun and pull the trigger to "see if it works"?

This "dim red glow" you see could be 100mW of IR, popping rods and cones in your eye like bubble wrap.

Youngun, get your eyes checked. If you're noticing anything 'funny' in your vision after doing that, you might have lost more than $5.

I hate to be that dire, but this point needs to be driven home with a baseball bat.
