I have a old CD writer/dvd-rom, what kind of laser would be in there?

It's better to destroy a free low power laser from a dvd rom then a $20 high powered LD![]()
Viracocha said:Being only a ROM it would be very low power, although by not using a driver you might of damaged it by supplying too much current. Something like that might of only been 1-5mW and anything over 10mA could of fried it, unlike the burner diodes which could take 50mA of test current before you need to start regulating it more closely.
You could try plugging it into a driver and increasing the current, that might make it brighter?
