Since the blue ray diode puts out no infrared, does a glass lens still limit/no change/increase power output? Also, im considering a lpc815 build, using a rkcstr driver. Will this work down to 3.0v input? What would be an appropriate input voltage for this setup and a good tradeoff power level setting.

No lens can "increase" the output of the diode. ANY lens will cause some loss of output.

The LPC diode needs 3V. The Rkcstr needs 2.2V. You need a minimum of 5.2V for it to regulate the laser. I like to work with a 6V minimum with the combination you have outlined here.

I'm not sure what you mean by "good tradeoff power level setting."

A tradeoff of life yet high power, that particular diode is advertised as 300mw, so say i could drive it at 250mw for a very long time. A flexdrive could be used for lesser voltage hosts, correct? I guess what im asking as far as the lens question is, i seem to see the opinions on the glass/acrylic lens issue go both ways. Whitch lens cuts the power least?

Although there are NO guarantees about diodes, you should be able to run that diode at 380mA-420mA with a good life expectancy (as long as you do not let it overheat)

In order of allowed output (lowest to highest)

AixiZ acrylic
AixiZ glass (for red)
Merideth
650-G-1

i could set it that high? using a multimeter in mv range? or is that using an amprobe? Im using a test load to set power.
 
Also, can a driver be set using a test load with an input voltage to the driver that is different from the final host output voltage. Say, setting the output voltage of either a rkcstr or lava boost drive, with 9v input to the driver, but using say a 7.2v host?
 
almost all available multimeters have a 200mv setting and a 2v setting. if you want 200mv or less use 200mv. if more, then choose the 2v. setting. it is accurate to 3 decimal places usually. and yes you do not need the same input voltage for testing as you do in the final host.

please try searching. if you work for the info you will learn much more.

i guess my fluke just auto ranges in mv mode, im getting the correct readings for a blue ray that ive just finished, i just couldnt figure out how setting the driver around 350 plus mv was equaling 220mw output, is it the loss through the lens? If i were to set the driver on a test load at those levels, wouldnt it fry the diode?
 
I thought you had a couple of questions so I tried to help. It has become apparent that you are just looking for someone to tell you what to do. So I am telling you what to do . . . .

You need to read more. You are not ready to build a laser yet.

I already have a 803t built, no problems with what i've learned from reading on here already, just had a small question with ohms law, sorry ive offended.
 
ohms law is to help you turn mv into ma.... neither of those correlate into mw
