::)803t Lava driven with active cooling ::)

Another build, this one with the infamous 803t. Quite a little diode, the TEC maybe overkill but its 3v and the summer is closing in so who knows. This is the first TEC BR ive done, and will probably put a red in this housing.

Here are the pics, thus far...

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

Nice peltier I have one of those laying around here somewhere.

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

LOL, the problem is, it doesnt get warm at all without the tec, so im thinking of dropping an open can in there to make use of it :)

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

very nice build, also what you can do is get a normal sized tec and take a glass cutter to it *snap* and get two or more mini peltiers :D (i did that for replacing the dead pelt in my 200mw green module)

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

This one is the size of my thumb nail, I had bought other ones on ebay but they are a little too big. Thanks for the tip, I shall try that :) I think I still have 20 of the larger, so maybe some modding is in order..

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

Yea, the TEC is a bit overkill, also if you're gonna use it as a desktop module, there's no need for the tiny and energy efficient lavadrive.Better use that for a small host, IMO :-/

Ahh, thats ok, I got 5 on the way.

Send it to me then!!! :D I'll give you cake :P

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

;D I knew wannaburn would put another diode in that heatsink as soon as I saw the pics of knimrods dismantled module I though to myself " I bet wannaburn is gonna end up using this for another green DIY project or somethin "

That looks like a really nice build though, would like to see some beam shots when you have it all finished ! :)

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

Ive made red green and blue with these, I originally ordered 15 of them so the parts were abundant. I buy tons of DX stuff just for their heatsinks ;)

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

Well atleast theres one good use for some of the worse lasers DX sell, and cheap heatsinking aswell even if the laser was good ;D

Have you tested any of the "35mW" modules before ripping the guts out of them ? What kind of power did you get, and did you safely adjust the pot ?

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

After putting in an IR filter, ive seen 105mw tops. Ive also noticed that the diodes are not always held tightly in place, which may cut its life. At 6v in and modding the pot, two of the resistors on the board get extremely hot and begin to smoke. The heatsink itself is nice and sturdy, fill it with thermal compound and youve got a nice host which draws off the heat quite well. :)

Re:  ::)803t Lava driven with active cooling

:) Ok, I'll turn the pot to max then turn it down a 1/4 turn ( or more ? ) ? I only really want 75mW from it, also Mario said that he was only getting 1-2mW IR without an IR filter on his :-?
