One step at a time, we're not even sure if we can get the A-130 arrays at the same price as originally, let alone "upgrade" to the A-140's instead...

As i've already said, when i asked for the arrays only, Casio Italy assistance said me that they don't sell them as spare parts (at least in Italy), cause they wanted to check the defective units for study .....

Now, i'm wondering if this is true, or if the assistance center was just taking an excuse for keep themselves the damaged arrays, harvest the diodes and sell them as laser diodes on ebay (or maybe just selling the arrays to some friends for the same reason, or having some accord with laser makers, or similar).

I had not considered this, at the start, but seeing that in some countries there are companies that sell them, i started to have a doubt, now .....

I can always be wrong, anyway, it's just a personal feeling :p

No more like reuse the diodes for new arrays... that's something a company would most likely do rather than just waste more resources just to sell on the side.

If they were to sell them they would do it another more commercial way rather than acting like regular civilians and using those channels.

No respectable company is going to re-use any limited lifespan light engine component...

I loled for a good 5 minutes, the Original Lasa Gangstas!
Then I loled for another 5 minutes when firefox actually has Gangstas in its spell check dictionary.

No, sorry, not intended reusing the diodes in others arrays ..... mean, some "business" intended for resale the damaged arrays to friends or other peoples, that then take the diodes and sell them on ebay as privates ..... i know, it's difficult, but i've seen also worse things, in this field .....



By the way, about the part numbers that was posted before, from electron, i mean:

XJ-A130 Laser Array part # 10365772 2,000 Lumens

XJ-A140 Laser Array part # 10365773 2,500 Lumens

I just received half hour ago the A140 (i was almost tempted to not open it ..... almost :p), and the array don't have that number, it's marked just LSA-25, followed from a serial number (that i don't post for obvious reasons :p), where instead the A130 one is marked LSA-20, as part number ..... but is possible that the part number posted from electron was the catalog reference number of the array sold as spare part, not the part number of the ones mounted in the projectors ..... anyway, as part number, the array of the A140 IS different from the one of the A130 ..... now, need to check if also the inside diodes are differents *turning on the buzzsaw for open it* :D

While that is 100% true, there are some shady companies out there that do take replaced parts and sell them on the side. I think what is trying to be said is that the company wants you to send them the projector so they can replace it with a new one, then sell the parts from the old one to hobbyists.

Sounds somewhat far fetched, but lots of weird stuff is happening lately :D

I agree... but I would not classify a shady company as a Respectable
Company.. Respect for a Company is earned over time...

HIMNL9 was saying that smaller companies that would do repair or
replacements for the arrays may strip the old arrays and harvest
the still usable LDs for non Casio projector associated sales... and I
see nothing wrong with it if they were sold as used...

Seems to me that selling spare/"defective" laser arrays to the general public is exactly what Casio doesn't want to do, after seeing the recent bold advertisement of dangerous laser pointers being built from gutted Casio projectors and the subsequent media "frenzy" around it.

That is a little different, most of those are manufacturing rejects aren't they? I thought most of those came directly from a manufacturer, not a repair shop. I could be wrong though

I wouldn't mind paying another $6-$9 for my 445 diode.

I vote if we have the money to plase the order for the now (higher priced) arrays go ahead and do so.
That leaves us another few weeks (while the order is shipping from china) to add a little more to cover the shipping costs.
If people don't want to add a little $ to cover the small price increase then selling on ebay or forums should more than cover refunds.

EDIT: and A140 diodes would be best :D

Seeing as difficult as it was to round up payments the first time, I think it would be a lot of hassle (and a lot of extra time) to round up everyone again and make additional payments. We'll see what happens and await updates, not much more to do.
