If I had a 15mW 405nm diode, would it have a beam as visible as a 532nm at 5-10mW or even a 15mW green? Or do I need hundreds of mW like I do with my 650nm?
 





My PS3 blu-ray is 16.7mW's. The beam is almost invisible. You can see the beam in total darkness. The dot is still pretty bright though! A 5mW green laser has a much more visible beam. I have a 473mn RPL that is very visible. Almost like a 532nm, but the 532nm is the most visible spectrum to the human eye...

Thanks for the info. 473nm are so expensive though. 405 should be fine, especially with a little fog and smoke. And its blue on camera from what I hear.
 
I have 2 shots of a bluray running around 12mW + in my "box" thread (multimedia).
Some smoke is added.
 
man!! when r we going to see handheld >50mw blueray pointers?
i thought they were getting dirt cheap by the day :(
in a year from today, what r the chances on a >50mw

do you need and protection googles for blu ray?

Not really. Most blu-rays are only like 8-15mw so as long as you don't point them in your face you should be fine.
 
ive never seen a bluray in person, people say im missing out in life... 30 bucks is just too much or me, considering im prolly gonna kill it...
 
If I wanted to get a 405nm diode from a HD DVD player, can I assume all models use 405nm diodes? And is diode extraction simple enough for some one to do it their first time on a pricey diode like this?

I am happy to report that a blu-ray at 43mW's does have a visible beam in the outdoor normal city light conditions. You can see the beam pointing into the night sky! I would guess maybe 5 times more visibel than the PS3 blu-ray diodes. So, more visible than the red burners! Check here:

You get 'instantly spoiled' on more power! Now, I must have one of the diodes that drlava and Hemlock Mike have! That's like a 100mW blu-ray!

at 40 mW and visible in city, just IMAGINE a 10 watt labby blu-ray...... lol, that willl prolly freakin fluoresce your whole hand ;D
 
I have realized that my 25mW violet laser, is just about as visible (in its pure violet form, no fluorescing) as a 5mW red, maybe a little higher. When it fluoresces its significantly brighter.

But the funny thing is, even when fluorescing, its still not as intensely bright as my 5mW green. Its very close, but I'd have to say the green takes the cake.
