I am looking at a laser projector that has 10kpps galvos in it. i understand that 20kpps scanners are faster but how much of a differences that i would notice if i went with the 10kpps galvos? would this only be good for beam shows? how would complicated graphics turn out?

Complicated graphics with a 15kpps are crap really crap

difference between 10 and 20 are noticeble with simple graphics

okay so i should just go with a 20kpps projector then. when u say simple graphics for 10kpps galvos what is that? shapes?

fonts, words, basic shapes. i am building a 20k show and have read that 20k is good for beam shows, and graphics. if you want animations you will need at least 30k

michael.

As andy says, 30k is the minimum for graphics. You can do beam shows with 10k-20kpps, and some simple graphics starting around 20k, but 30k+ is necessary for smooth animation and less flicker.

oh i did not know that 30k+ was really for animations. i thought that 20k was for that. so basically 20k animations will look very flikery?

They will flicker a bit yes, but for the average person just starting out 20k will impress the hell out of you.

Like Andy said, 30k is the standard, most frames are written for 30k. Some short text will look alright with 20k, but 10k is just a waste of cash.

so do you think that it would be a waste of my money to buy 20kpps scanners? i feel like i might be disappointed if it doesnt look smooth. do you know of any 30kpps scanners that are fairly cheap? meaning any that are at the price of $300 or less?

I would not waste time/money on 20K scanners when you can get 30K scanners for around $100 more. Just like there is a big difference between 10K and 20K, there is a big difference between 20K and 30K. 20K is fine for beam shows but 30K will allow you to increase your scan angle for even better beam shows.

gee, where were you when i was buying my 20k's carman. LoL. jk, i know i'll be happy with my weak ass beam shows.

michael

the thing is i dont mind a little flicker but only if it is very minor and nothing that would be too dramatic. i currently have a little scanner that i built myself using little motors and i run tones through it and that impresses the hell out of me i feel if i were to buy the 20k scanners that would still blow me away by what i can do. also i dont really have the money to fork out a couple hundred bucks on 30k.
