It is not a defect, the rectangular artifact you see around the dot is a projection of reflections from within the diode package, which some diodes have.

The "lower" wattage (1-2.5W) 445 diodes tend to have pretty good beam characteristics for a multimode diode. That's why it looks better compared to your green one.

The 3 element will give the lowest divergence and the tightest beam over long distance. The G8 will have slightly higher divergence but also more light throughput, so a brighter beam. It's up to you to choose the one you prefer. Or both. They are good quality lenses, everyone on the forum will...
