Is it illegal just to import or to have

Some of the recent insane laws are state by state. I live in Texas and it was very depressing to read some of the BS laws that have been passed here that most people know nothing about. Here at least, it's broken up into several power categories, but basically anything over the power of a...

    What antivirus do you use?

Norton just became more and more of a hog over the years. Now I won't even use it for free. I've been using Avast! for a couple of years on multiple PCs with no problems. It's only significant drawback is that the free version won't do scheduled scans, but does have a scan that will run in a...

    flash paper

Agreed - it's nitrocellulose. They won't even ship the stuff unless it's wet. A nearby magic shop stocks the stuff - it's fun to play with, but not so much with lasers. First of all it's white, then even if you color it black, about the best you can usually do is carve out shapes on it with the...

    Resurrected DX20

Oh yeah, another thing I discovered... It turns out the (plastic) lens is focusable - kind of. Behind the front cap, on the front of the module, the lens had been protruding slightly. After I got everything finished though, I noticed that the beam diameter was way bigger than it used to be...

    Resurrected DX20

Nothing too earth-shattering here, but I thought I'd share my experiences with giving a second life to a DX20 pen laser that had gotten to where it wouldn't turn on at all. This was a 2xAA pen laser, that at the time was $17. Seemed not bad for 20mW, and I got some fun out of it, but it was...

Green Laser Pointer Dismantle (NewWish type)

Has anybody successfully dismantled one of the more typical pen lasers, where the module seems to be glued into the barrel? I've got a DX20 I want to disassemble, but I hate to have to slice up the barrel with a cutting wheel, for fear of damaging something.

    DX Phone LED Lamp

Just be aware that when the phone rings, the voltage is around 100V pulsed at 20Hz. Could fry some of your components if you design for 5-10V only.

    Incinerating a Cockroach:

If people are getting so politically correct that they have to feel sorry for cockroaches, then please stop the world, I wanna get off. There's a huge chasm between a cockroach (insect) and a rat (mammal), and they shouldn't be lumped together in the same sentence. I like little furry creatures...

    what do you drive???

An old 1980 Honda CB750 that I built up from a junked bike. http://barrettmanor.homeip.net:8080/CB750.JPG Not the shiniest thing in the world but it gets close to 40MPG. When it rains, it's the 1996 Ford Ranger, but it's still only got 50K miles on it.

Or use some freeware like at http://www.irfanview.com to resize it first.

    Red laser diode roundup

Cool - great job. So the Phazor really does have all those plateaus when you get above 250mW. I thought it might have been my test setup.

    How to open this laser?

I'd love to take my DX20 apart so I could fix the intermittent contacts, but I haven't gotten it to budge at all while putting nasty gouges in the chrome caps with pliers. The glue seems so tight that the case would be a total loss to get it out. Has anybody successfully taken a DX pen laser...

    What Phone do you have?

I'm on Sprint - currently have a Samsung A900 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_SPH-A900), but in June I'm getting a Samsung Instinct http://www.nowisgood.com/. I mainly want it for the nice fast thin anywhere touchscreen web browser.
