Thanks very much. It will now focus. It appears I have to do it manually now by turning the lens itself and keeping the lens cap(silver adjuster ring) off. If I try to put it on I lose my adjustment. Much better than before though.

@trevor I believe it is, if I understand your question correctly. No mods have been done since I purchased it. @daguin Yes, there is a small silver ring that has female threads. It goes around a black male threaded piece.
