I am so excited about the pace of laser technology. Do you think that we will have 100watt blue handheld lasers? could you imagine that?

100w ? even 400w-800w is available now. There is a kind of professional YAG laser whose output can reach 800w,but only for professional usage such as diamond processing

He was talking about a hand held unit, like a pointer, John.

Oh, I notice it now "handheld",
sorry

Its ok, I'm happy you are trying to help.

Everyone wants a lightsaber.

There are 18650 sizes that can give close to 100W for short periods.

All we need is a diode with sufficient output effect and the efficiency rate to avoid dumping app. 500W of waste heat into a hand held. :D

I really hope 100W handhelds will never be available. I can only imagine the damage they would cause.

Yeah, my 1.1W is scary. Sometimes I point it at the ceiling for a few seconds to bask in the blue light. Then I have 4 minutes of blue spots floating in my eyes. I dont think you could even turn a 100W laser on without blinding yourself.

i love threads like these they get me excited lol
and can you get a real life lightsabre?

i have alot of fun with my 5mW greenie, so... i cant imagine the fun there is too come lols

At 100W I would put that mofo in a gun and call it a blaster.....

500 watts would be easily dissipated if phase change materials would be used for the heatsink. I put up a feeler in the group buys section. no bites yet.

But soon electronic projectors and equipment will be using multiwatt laser diodes. Look the actual chip itself is smaller than a grain of sand.

I have been wondering about the light sabre concept.

It seems a bit risky to to be standing an arms length from the rapidly expanding cloud of plasma/superheated steam generated by cutting stuff.

Do those Jedi powers involve a forcefield to protect the user from such effects? :D
