Deep BLUE BURNING BEAMS of DOOM!

Very nice,

What drivers are you running? or are just going direct from battery's with a resistor (I think I recall you mentioning it in another thread.)

The lab laser is running on a 6V 1.2A power converter, the portable unit and the tiny module uses a DC-DC converter that was meant to charge lithium ion cells originally. The blue balloon reflects and diffuses the light so it did not pop instantly, similar to how a red laser diffuses in your finger; also the lab laser was on LOW during the final popping. Even on LOW these lasers are pretty scary powerful. I tested the beastie diodes, and they can put out over 2W before they will fail. These diodes kick... HARD

Great video!! Can't wait to get mine running!!

"Ahhh.. STinky hahaha" Also, the lasers are 445 nm right? Why did the balloon not pop instantly?

It's because the balloons color is blue. Color is defined by the reflected wavelength of the material. Black color means it absorbs all light, white reflects all (most) light, and any color is between means it absorbs all light except the color of the object (eg blue balloon absorbs all colors except blue).

Chris, I like your setup. What is your method for switching between low and high? Just throwing more resistance across the driver?

Also, where do you find such a nice enclosure? Are you using any TEC? How large is your heatsink?

It switches a normal silicon rectifier diode in and out of the circuit. I made the enclosure on a break press from 2 pieces of aluminum. The whole case acts as the heatsink.

Really nice video. This is going to make me miss my lab unit because I'm making it into a 18650 host. Need to buy another :P

I also plan (if I can) to get a 3rd for CNC use to test accuracy before giving it a high power CO2.

Keep the videos coming :D

I think this will be my next cig lighter for sure :D

I was wondering if someone would bring that up. 445nm's can achieve more power than 405nm's and look infinitely better than 808nm's so I guess they are now they new tobacco lighter. Anyone remember lazyazz? hahaha

10 minutes of 445nm funn, Nice.
LOL, Is that your Woman behind the camera? She's enjoying what that labbie can do, cool.
